DS itched and aggravated mole

Noticed the lower mole on DS age 12 looking prominent, raised and itchy. Found out he's been trying to pull it off.

I am a worrier and keep wondering why it's suddenly looking like this. Was starting to be hopeful it was something else or a bite-but looked back on photos and seen it was definitely there earlier in summer but not looking this prominent.

Second pic is early August. No history of anything sinister in family. But just worrying now. Anyone had anything similar where a child has itched and aggravated a mole?

As a child I tried several time to peel off some of my flat moles ('beauty spots') - unsuccessfully, needless to say. As an adult I have picked at skin tags, both flat and dangly ones, and at haemangiomas.

The only result has been that I made myself sore.

If you go to your GP, they may refer your ds to a minor surgery clinic to have it removed. They did with me back in 2007

Thank you. I am waiting to hear back from GP, in a way I hope they do that option - it will stop him picking it, plus they could make sure it is ok. Thank you for sharing your experience.

No problem at all @raeraekathleen especially if he's picking it, hope you get sorted

I had a mole (well more if a freckle really) that started to get angry. Military doctor just cut it out in case it caused problems later. No more freckle-mole. Get it checked over if you're worried as there is a clear difference between the photos.

I had two moles like this removed as a teenager - one on my neck and one on my belly button. The doctor's view was that both were irritating me, I was fiddling with them and/or catching them when dressing/brushing my hair etc, and that I should get the removed so that there was less chance of problems down the line.

Rather irritatingly, I have a similar one on my neck now and I would very much like to have it removed but as it doesn't show up as being a problem, they won't take it out but when I have a bit of spare cash I plan to have it removed privately.

I would definitely have it seen and, if possible, removed in your DS' case.

My DS has a similar mole on his neck. He had a referral to the skin clinic, but the Drs said they wouldn't consider removing it until he was an adult. They said to just put Vaseline on it if sore and to always put sun block on it in sunny weather. He is now 18 and it doesn't bother him.

Thank you. He's doing the same. He's come home with a bloody collar today because he's been picking and itching it at school. Doc said they'll see us on Friday. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Oh really. Was it ok? In the end? His itched it so much today it's almost gone! Lots of blood on his collar after school today!

Mine was on my face. Left a tiny scar, barely noticeable. They cut it out under local anaesthetic. Moles shouldn't itch, definitely not to the point where he has broken the skin. Do you have econsult at your GP surgery? I would be tempted to fill out the form, send in photos and go from there.
