Due my second in December, never used a Moses basket with my first because everyone said they were a waste of money

I want somewhere to put baby and also will need to take her with me room to room, can't really leave her alone with DD1

Please can I have some recommendations of baskets I can carry baby in or something similar?

Do you already have a pram with a bassinet?

DappledThings · 06/10/2024 21:33

I just used the carrycot attachment from the buggy

RedRobyn2021 · 07/10/2024 08:13

This is what I used last time but it tells you not to carry them in it?

With DD I just left her downstairs if I needed a wee, but don't think I should leave the baby with DD

I just had a Moses basket. It wasn’t a waste of money, my baby loved it. Everyone also told me not to get one when I was pregnant but every baby is different.

How old is DD1? Could you take her with you instead?

Haroldwilson · 07/10/2024 08:24

Just get cheap or secondhand one and new mattress. My babies rarely slept in it but handy to put them in.

I had bouncer, high chair tilted back, sleepyhead etc as well - basically every room had somewhere I could quickly put the baby if I needed to sort out toddler.

How old is DD? I know not leaving her with baby is a thing, but does she independently get up to mischief? Siblings can start to play up for attention when a baby comes.

@Haroldwilson

I was thinking about getting a sleepyhead, I know they have a bad press but supervised I think it would be so helpful

@Blue2020

DD will be almost 4yo but she's definitely going to be one of those siblings that wants to "help" baby, I don't think she would hurt them on purpose but I can imagine her trying to pick the baby up whilst I'm gone and possibly dropping her 🙈

I could try to take her with me but I think she'll just say no tbh

I've never heard that but surely that means for longer amounts of time anyway. My house used to have 8 steps to the front door and we moved to a flat on the second floor with no lift for a bit when DC2 was a fortnight old. Carrying her in the carrycot for those short bursts is no issue.

IrisApfel · 07/10/2024 12:06

I used to put the carrycot in a playpen when I had a baby and a toddler.

We have a Joie Sansa swing - the upper part is detachable and I take DD round the house with me in it.

I've got the snuzbaskit. I've just had DS2 last week and he's in it all the time to keep him safe from my 2 year old. I'm also using it for overnight sleep at the moment because baby prefers it to the next to me. Think it feels more safe and enclosed. It's also easier on my c section wound because I can swing my legs out of bed with it there.
I had it with my first but didn't really use it. This time it's a god send! It's quite large so should last 4-5 months.

From the press you'd think they were 100% lethal! I didn't use one at night, only during the day for awake baby or napping baby with me nearby and awake.

Toddler DD also played on it quite a lot!

When dc2 was born, midwife looked at me intently and said dc1 was the biggest risk to dc2. Slightly spooked me tbh. But yes, not a good idea to leave them alone.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 07/10/2024 14:31

I had a playpen and our Dts in there in vouchers as we have a dog and didn't want them to be alone together. When they were really small used the bassinets.
