Breastfed 4 week old not pooped in over 24 hours

Hi, my baby is almost 4 weeks old and exclusively breastfed with a couple bottles of pumped milk a day. He hasn't done a poo since early hours yesterday morning, usually he would have at least a couple of big poos a day and I'm concerned. He's still been having wet nappies but I'm worried he isn't getting enough milk :(

Is he feeding well?
weeing? Alert when not feeding ?

breastfed babies can often not poo for a few days
is his tummy soft? Does he seem well in himself?

it goes without saying that if you have concerns about a baby that young you should seek medical advice

My BF baby settled into a routine of a enormous poo explosion once a week at about 5 weeks. We literally couldn't go out on a Friday until after it had happened as it usually resulted in needing a bath 🙃 it can be normal, as long as they are still having plenty of wet nappies I'd not worry and just keep an eye on them.

Update: he just pooped! 😁 thank you both x

Yeh mine was once a week or more. Was very handy as you didn't have to deal with many poo nappies! All changes when they start on solid food though.

My now 2yo went five weeks without pooping when he was 3 months old! He was breastfeeding normally, totally happy in himself, but no poos! We had two trips in the GP during that time, where he examined his tummy with the stethoscope and manually, said it all seemed fine 🤷‍♀️

Of course, after five weeks he then started pooing on the changing table, and it just did not stop flowing for several minutes... luckily my husband was around as it was definitely a four hand job!

All this to say... little babies' guts are weird. If your baby seems comfortable and happy, they're probably fine.

I think it's worth adding that the NHS advice has recently changed on this. Even in bf babies, the advice is now that if* *baby hasn't pooped in 24-48hrs and is under 6weeks, to seek medical advice.

Over 6 weeks and it's fine to leave them a bit longer. Poops slowing down at around 3 weeks was the first indication that my DD2 was struggling with milk transfer and resulted in them finding she had a very severe tongue tie.

Glad he's had a poop now, OP!
