Fuzzi Bunz - am I doing something wrong?

I have bought medium FBs for DS, and every time I put one on him the damn leg holes leak!

He's 21lbs and a bit of a chubber, so well within specified weight range.

They're the old size, if it helps. Am I doing something wrong or should I just get rid and if so, what might fit?

So the old style? - i always fastenthe lower level first to get a snug but not tight fit around his legs then the belly row next. Make sure the insert isnice and flat and not bunching and goes side to side without big gaps........

broguemum · 22/04/2008 19:51

Sorry but I can't answer your question. However, I have the same problem and would love to hear the answer. I've kind of assumed that DS is just not suited to Fuzzibunz but perhaps I am doing something wrong?

cmotdibbler · 22/04/2008 19:54

What are you stuffing with ?

I do the legs first and then the waist too. They do need to be reasonably tight around the legs ime.

I've got them on the tightest fitting around legs and waist, and am using the lining they came with, not sure what brand it is.

May try more stuffing.

I use Fuzzibunz stuffed with the insert they came with, but find they're not so reliable now DD is older (20 months) so I find myself going back to tots bots when I know she's due a wee..

Nappyzone · 22/04/2008 21:36

i use them but boosted with a hemp insert under the fuzzi one.......

When you same lining they came with do you mean the insert ......

tummytickler · 22/04/2008 21:41

agree with nappyzone - we were getting leaks after a couple of months and this was sorted by putting a hemp insert under the fuzzi one.
Have not had any leaks since (in fact - i went out for a couple of hours today and dh didn't change ds nappy so it lasted a total of 8 hours , no leaks!)

Sazisi · 22/04/2008 23:47

I boost mine too (usually with a tots booster and/or a thin fuzzi booster), and find them quite reliable. I do think they can be more prone to leaks if the clothes on top are very tight. They do need 'stripping' quite often, and I avoid using any creams with them.
tummytickler - I can so relate to that! DH rarely checks poor DD's nappy unless I explicitly tell him to

Sazisi · 22/04/2008 23:49

Although, credit where due*, he is fantastic at washing the nappies (I don't think I've put them on them myself for weeks)

*incase he's cyber-stalking

susiecutiebananas · 23/04/2008 00:07

I use them and think they are fantastic. We did have a problem with leaking a little while ago, turns out it was the washing liquid i was using... It was the persil small and mighty with comfort fresh. NO mention anywhere on it that it actually had comfort in it. All my nappies went leaky!

After many many washes with daz and soap nuts, they were fine again... so, are you sure its not what you are washing them with?

I also use the insert they came with, or hemp inserts. Rarely have a problem now, unless she's pee'd more than usual, between changes.

I use both the hemp inserts at night, you know, the two that pop together. I have to say, I think the hemp inserts much better than the micro fibre that they come with, but if I change every 4-6 hours, it is fine.

I love our fuzzis. I also have some bumgenious, which are truly fab too. Can't recommend either of them highly enough.

I like the changes they've made to the fuzzis, although they seem a lot larger, and the insert doesn't go all the way from the back to the front when its on IYSWIM?

Lastly, I also fasten the legs first then the waist. Izzy is small for her age, and skinny round the waist and not big round the legs by any means, but, I still only fasten it on the 2nd from the smallest on the leg, and smallest/middle most poppers round the waist.

Are you running your fingers just inside the leg opening when fastened and making sure its all neat and flat to the leg? you know, so it is only the fleece and elastic coated in fleece which is in contact with the skin? I did find a few times, if I didn't do that, and the outer material was folded in and in contact with her thighs, then she would leak... not sure if i'm describing it very well erm... basically after i've fastened it all, I put my finger just inside the leg opening, and run it round the opening so its in contact with the nappy and her leg. Making sure its all flat, not lumpy and rucked up at all.

Sorry, i've gone on a it, I kept thinking of reasons why, and also what i do every time.

HTH

SO, in actual answer to your question, NO, don't get rid, try a different insert perhaps? he may just wee more than the insert can take- perhaps he's a heavier wetter than you think.

Try the hemparoo inserts, from the wonderoos nappies. oyu can buy them seperatly. I got mine from Kittykins . they are a great company, really helpful too, if you call, both the husband and the wife who run the company, really know their stuff. They might e able to advise you?

I would also recommend getting some bumgenious. HTey are birth to potty, and are so easy to use, extra fast drying, and comfy for DD to move around in too. She is also in medium FB and has the bumgenious on the largest setting i.e. not adjusting the height of the rise with the poppers.

I mainly got them in addition to the FB just becasue I sudden'y felt sensible and thought that having only got the medium FB's, if I have another baby, none of them will fit a new born, so wanted some I can re-use again, with the next one, from the start! They have lovely stretchy fastening bits at the sides, which just fit any size and shape perfectly . Velcro too, so easier for my DH to use, he finds the poppers too fiddly with his huge hands, and a wriggly 15month old DD change times are far quicker as a result that said, she only plays him up, as she knows she can

HTH too ?

susiecutiebananas · 23/04/2008 00:15

Ah... reminds me, I need to get a huge load out of the machine to dry overnight! She's had a horrible tummy today so we've got through 10 nappies!!!!

Moorhen · 23/04/2008 07:02

Thanks everyone, plenty to try here!

I did mean the insert NOT the liner, it's long and thin rather than the 'wing' design I have with my wonderoos. Will try boosting with those tesco microfibre cloths I've seen praised so many times, and if that's no good invest in a couple more inserts.

As for washing, I am using half the recommended amount of Persil Small and Mighty with a slug of white wine vinegar and no conditioner, is that OK? Have washed on 60 so far due to poo incidents.

May also try doing the legs up a bit more loosely (one popper) and will definitely check to make sure fabric is smooth.

Would LOVE some bumgenius but couldn't afford them at the time. Still keeping an eye on boards, but don't seem to see them even second hand.

I'll report back in a day or two!

Fuzzis suited my oldest son but not my baby sonm. They were hit and miss on my daughter.

I stuffed them with Banana Babies inserts and found them really good. HTH.

susiecutiebananas · 23/04/2008 14:02

Hmm, in that case, i'd really suggest not using the persil small and mighty, as like I said, it definitely was the cause of our leaky nappies. no shadow of a doubt.

I also wash on 60, though not every time. I cold rinse in the machine first, with temp dial set to the lowest, and a splash of liquid then up to 40 and a 60 minute wash with a capful of either daz liquid, surf liquid, or woolite, which ever was on offer! ( just not persil ) I also use soap nuts for most of our clothes, just with the nappies i use the fragranced liquids, as they smell of stale wee sometimes, after washing and drying.

I also have a liner inside for when I know she's going to poo, just because it is so much easier to deal with, if runny poo. If I know she's a it more solid, i don't bother with a liner.

I know what you mean about the inserts, the are long and thin. Fine though. Wonderoos shape are pretty unique to them in my experience. THe insert which come with bumgenius are long, thin with poppers at one end to adjust length. THey are slightly thicker than the FB inserts.

Definitely add an extra layer.I've tried a microfibre cloth from wilkinsons, I folded it into three, lengthways, and put it in on top of the usual insert.

The tesco ones which are recommended, are they the value ones or the slightly more money, tesco ones, do you know? would be interested to try... its all the same material though, as the inserts. Its all microfibre.

booge · 23/04/2008 14:15

I had this problem, the wonder-fulls inserts worked a treat.
