Hi! My little boy is 2yr9mo and is in a bed. Now it's colder we are having the issue that he HATES the duvet and will kick it off furiously. He's waking cold in the early hours and wants us to stay with him to keep him warm instead... He has bad eczema so fleecey pjs are out (cotton only). Any suggestions for other options to try?! X

My dd was the same. We used quilted cotton pyjamas from Next. Uniqlo also have some good ones this year.

They look like wearing joggers and sweatshirt but softer

You could try thin soft cotton pjs, with fleecy ones over.

Mine still liked a sleeping bag at that age , she just undid it when she was on the move.

I add a layer on if it's cold, I also don't let the house get too cold at night

NuffSaidSam · 05/10/2024 18:56

Put a fitted cotton layer under warmer/fleecy pyjamas (like long John's!). Go for a onesie or tuck them in so there's no gaps for the cold to get in.

Get a teddy bear/fluffy mattress topper to go under a cotton sheet so he's warm underneath.

And/or use a sleeping bag.

Keep the room a bit warmer.

Gro used to do a gro duvet cover that zipped to the bed. Not sure if they still do.

Old-fashioned cellular blanket???

AlmostCutMyHairToday · 05/10/2024 19:03

Mine is exactly like this and still hasn't accepted the duvet at 3.3yrs.
He also has eczema. We've found that cotton pj's under a thick merino jumper and thick merino trousers has kept him warm, but we do need to keep the heating on in his room in the winter (we've moved the thermostat in there), which is a real pain.
We tried ditching all that and hoping he'll use the duvet cos he's cold but he doesn't and we gave up as were too tired from all the waking. I'm hoping he'll get it one day...

Wibblywobblybobbly · 05/10/2024 19:05

Slumbersac. Basically a sleeping bag they can walk in.

stichguru · 05/10/2024 19:06

Old fashioned but try sheets and blankets. I prefer them. They tuck round me at night and don't move. Also massive advantage, you can just take the top layer off if you are warm.

My daughter hates being covered! At 18 months she learnt how to remove herself from her sleeping bag and sleep suits and we found her in just a nappy. Thankfully spring time. We switched to PJ's and socks with a blanket through the summer
She has a heated under sheet and has a vest under her pjs. Although she's 4 she still fits into her 18-24 m vests so we can popper them so her back doesn't get cold. She keeps he covers on better if they don't touch her. She had a side on one side of her bed and we put the covers over that so it's like a tent. We recover her when we go to bed and often she wakes once a night for a cuddle and once she is back asleep we can cover her again.

We have an electric heater in her room too, the blanket and heater are on timer plugs. It means we can keep her room warmer than the rest of the house as we wouldn't sleep if the house was as warm as her room

Thanks so much everyone! I'll take a look into these suggestions . If anyone knows of any good large cellular blankets let me know! X
