Hi

can you stop a father from seeing their children?

I’ve always been told you cannot but I’ve read this on the government website:

If you have parental responsibility for a child but you do not live with them, it does not mean you have a right to spend time with your children.

for those who have been separated and been down this road do you know the correct answer?

Legally yes. If you genuinely think the child is not safe in the other person's care then you can tell them the child isn't going and to seek legal advice. It needs to be genuinely about risk and not about money or general co parenting disputes. You'll end up in court if the other parent wants contact though and that is stressful and difficult. Also the emotional impact on your child of cutting contact and if they're old enough the impact of the knowledge their parents are fighting about them in court.

You need to post the details to get answers.

Yeah this.

If you just can’t be bothered anymore, or their dad hasn’t sent you any money, or you’ve had a bit of a bicker with their dad, or you fancy extra time with them NO you cannot stop them seeing their children. Doesn’t look good on you when it gets to court.

However if you have genuine reason to believe they are risk of abuse/harm/neglect with him then yes, because you can defend that in court.
