Bed rails safe or not?

I cant find much info online on if bed rails are safe for co sleeping? I have a next to me but it doesn't really fit with our bedframe and leaves a gap between it and the mattress which I know definitely isn't safe.

Could I get a bed rail in stead? He can roll now so dont feel comfortable bed sharing anymore but he sleeps so good next to me and is up every hour or more if not!

No, because at this age they can shuffle below the level of the bed rail and plop off the bed anyway. I just have a double mattress on the floor and a baby gate on the door. No worries then.

We did and it was absolutely fine. Went into his own bed at 8 months and bed rail stayed up for the occasional nights he was back in my bed unwell.

From what I understand they are only recommended from around 18 months due to risks on smaller babies getting trapped by them.

We have a bed rail with a mesh cover. Have stuffed the gap with towels, then put a sheet over it all, so there's no entrapment risk. Gives you an extra couple of inches of bed width too, so that's a bonus.

We had a bed guard from about 6-7 months but it was on the far side of the bed so she would have had to move quite a lot to reach it. I lay against 1 side of the bed and she slept next to me then there was my partners empty side of the bed (he was in the spare room) and then there was a side of his edge of the bed. It was there for reassurance more than need.

We use rails with our toddler. She consistently rolls into the gap and we often find her down there in the morning (by choice, at her age she can heave herself out!).

Wouldn't dream of using them with a child any younger than 18-months. Super unsafe as they aren't flush against the mattress.
