Spent 3 bloody hours combing nits out of DDs hair last night.

She hates having its done, like most kids !!

But she has ASD and hates having her hair messed with.

Shes just started at a new school, when i notified her new teacher this morning she informed me that the school is never free of the little sods.

So have any of you had any success with repellants, ive been spraying her hair with a diluted pure tea tree oil spray but she still got the horrid little gritters.

I'm afraid that I've never had any luck with repellants, but I did buy a fantastic comb that takea lice and eggs out. It cost £10, pharmacist recommended it, and if used once a week (I know...) it seems to keep them free. I use it on ds in the bath, admittedly he has short hair, so it only akes a few mins, but so far it seems to have kept them at bay for about 9 months

Don't know about repellents but we have had brilliant results getting rid of them with 'Full Marks'. Good Luck!

Nitty Gritty repellant spray worked for us, but only to stop them coming back once I'd nuked the little blighters with Prioderm (last resort, it stinks, but it works)

The repellant spray won't get rid of them if she already has them.

I use Hedrin about once a month and it's the only way to kill them I've found. Never managed to find a repellent that works alas!

i have found that repellents dont work the only thing i do is to keep combing them out with lashings of conditioner every other day for two weeks.
oohh im itching now just thinking about it!!!

Someone on here once recommended using Tea Tree Tingle shampoo by Alberto Balsam as a deterrent. I have been using it on DS and fingers crossed he hasn't had them in 2 years.

I always use tea tree shampoo on my dc's also a spray bottle with diluted tea tree oil in and sprayed every morning or dabs of tea tree oil behind the ears can help as a repellant.
I found the Nitty Gritty was the best comb I've used.
If you go to their website you can download a letter to give to your gp to get it on prescription

I use tea tree shampoo on my trio and as yet not had them..although I may just be being optimistic!!

My 3 have never had nits and since I got the very first letter from school saying it was in one of their classes I've used tea tree and mint shampoo on their hair, sometimes with conditioner too which makes the hair more 'slippy'.

So far, so good!

Novicecamper · 23/04/2008 12:11

I buy the boots own - cheap and, so far, effective.

oiFoiF · 23/04/2008 12:13

i dont use anything now#
i just comb with nitty gritty comb and that seems to work
