6am feed

Hello,

Not sure if I’m posting this in the right place.

My baby has always slept pretty well and he still is. He’s 4 months now and does the following:

7:30-8 goes down in his basket downstairs with us. 10/11 when he stirs we take him upstairs change/feed him and he goes down then until 5/6am then wakes for another bottle. He then sleeps until 8am.

This is great for us I’m not complaining. Only then around 9/10 when he’s due a bottle he has no interest, even has his first nap after only taking maybe 2oz, he nurses down about half a feed over two hours and never finishes it? I get he won’t finished every feed but he’s always only ever left an oz or two max and drinks it all at once. Then he seems to go from 0-100% getting really upset for his next two bottles as if he’s missed that one so he’s extremely hungry (no signs of hunger before hand feel like I watch him constantly to see if he’s showing me he’s hungry) I don’t know here timings wise then because he’s split/missed that feed.

Should I reduce his feed at 6am (he falls asleep during it) so he’s hungry for the next one? He just seems so unsettled in the afternoons bless him I don’t know where i’m going wrong! 🤦🏼‍♀️

If he's falling asleep on the bottle at 6 am I would just let him go back to sleep. Hopefully it will make him hungrier for his next bottles Wink

Firstly OP you are doing nothing wrong. Babies do this! DS used to do this. Wake up from his nap like he was absolutely starving and scream the place down (even though he had been offered a bottle before his nap and had about 1oz!)

Go with the flow on it. They go through different phases/ growth spurts where sometimes they eat more, sometimes less. Watch out for signs if not just offer the feed as you have been.

It gets easier when weaning starts

Thanks for checking in.

Things were better yesterday, I laid off an oz or two of his 6am feed and he seemed really hungry for his next one then. He’s definitely showing signs of teething already! So I think that might be playing a part also, he’s been nursing some bottles today, really fussy, tired, crying, red cheeks and gums.

Could be that, who knows! Trying to go with the flow and not work myself up. He’s just always been a really hungry baby so it’s out of character for him… But I guess they change like the wind all the time 😅

Thanks so much!

Nice to hear it’s not just us.
