Worth it, yes or no?

I bought one from CEX, cost about £50 if I remember right and it came with a year warranty. I asked family for the little figurines for DDs birthday present and she loves it. She uses them as toys too, she's always been great at independent play and this has helped even more. I think the figurines are quite expensive but they can be bought at CEX too. I'm considering one for my son, I Don't think he will play with it as much but just to help him settle at bedtime

Well, how old is your kid? I’d say Tonies are good for 2-5 year olds.

Our kids had a Tonie box since DC2 was 2, he’s now 6 and has had a Yoto since last Xmas. Tonie is now DC3’s (age 2).

NeighbourHitMyCar · 28/09/2024 18:20

We have one in our children's room and they love it. They have a collection they pick from and listen to it as they go to sleep which means we don't bath, book and bed and can then leave them to it.

We always have some on our list for birthdays and Xmas. Beware, the peppa pig ones are good but the theme song plays all the way through it after every story so it's not great for bedtime

All the paw patrol ones are excellent and quite long. And we adore Spot

gingerbears · 28/09/2024 18:21

Yes - son loves it! We play it every bath time and before bed :)

Definitely worth it here. We got one when DC was 1 and could work out the basics of change characters for different sounds and stories really early. DC is 3 now and they’ve got the hang of it properly. Every Christmas and birthday I will ask for tonies for them, they’re quite expensive at roughly £15 per tonie but grandparents seem to like buying them (once you demonstrate what it does otherwise they think it’s £15 for a bit of plastic). The tonies hold their resale value really well, usually reselling for £10-11 so as your DC grows out of them you can sell the old tonies on and buy new ones. You can also buy tonies second hand and resell for the same price assuming they’re kept in a good condition, so you’d only be losing out on postage.

There will be someone saying it can’t replace reading but we don’t use it to replace reading. We use it every night after we’ve read for lullabies as they go to sleep, for bath time, cooking/baking in the kitchen, when we need screen free time, in the car, when we’re playing and want a story or music in the background. DC likes the Paw Patrol ones, Paddington, bear hunt and gruffalo ones. I’ve put a few more like Room on the Broom and Zog on their Christmas list. They also really like the songs ones so there’s a little dog one with a ball and a pig with a drum that they like listening to and singing along with.

Our kids both have Yoto mini's. Eldest started off with a Yoto original which was fab when he was younger but just a bit big for the car. Youngest got a mini at 2 and has no issue working it. Seems like there is content on Yoto until a bit older than toniebox maybe.

Cas112 · 28/09/2024 18:43

My sons had his for a year he's two and never bothered, doesn't listen to it for long but suspect as he gets older he will

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 28/09/2024 18:52

I just got a Yoto mini for my classroom. Tone lasts up to 6 but Yoto go up to 12 at the moment. I did an interview with Tonie and they said they were not going over 6 years old.

NeighbourHitMyCar · 29/09/2024 11:07

7 months is too early IMO. Mine didn't start really using it (and not just chucking the figures around) until they were 2.5ish. Not at 4.5 they will sit happily and listen to a whole story while playing

I think it's probably still a bit young

I think the yoto players are much better. Ours has had one since 18m and loves it. It’s so versatile, you can even play the stories on your phone (if you’re in the car and don’t have the box with you), make your own stories, etc. ours loves to listen to it to fall asleep after a story and we can remotely control it with the app too.

AllThePotatoesAreSingingJingleBells · 29/09/2024 11:35

We got one last year for my then 2.5 year old as a present from the new baby. He loves it but she loves it even more (now 15 months old). We took it on holiday and it was never off, and it gets used daily at home.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 29/09/2024 12:33

My 2 year old loves her Tonies box so it’s been well worth it for us. In addition to playing with it during the day (mostly the music ones so far) she uses the lullabies to go to sleep every night which unfortunately means we have to take it with us whenever we travel.

MsSquiz · 29/09/2024 12:52

DD1 will be 5 in December, she got hers last year for her 4th birthday and she chooses one each night to fall asleep too. She's also allowed to put it on if she wakes up after 6am but before her alarm goes off (6:30)
She likes to take it with us on UK holidays too

We got my daughter one for her first birthday and she's always loved it.
Is now 20months and is more than happy to choose her story and settle down infront of it, whereas early months were her enjoying taking the singing characters on and off, or us setting a story and encouraging quiet time.

I'd definitely recommend some singing characters, or a blank character you can put songs on for the early months.

SillyNavySnail · 29/09/2024 17:11

I think the yoto player is better, will be getting one for my girls age just 3 years and 20 month to share.

The aim is to have them sharing a bedroom around Christmas and to have as bedtime routine after stories
