Tonsillitis in 6 month old

Hello, anyone have any tips. My poor baby girl recently got diagnosed with tonsillitis and had a 7 day course of penicillin prescribed. I took her day 7 to doc as she was still really refusing milk, for context she usually has about 800 ml across 24 hours she is 6 months and a big baby. She now has about 500 a day but is taking more purées as was only way I could get medicine in. Doc said the puss on her throat was gone but it was still red but to not take any more antibiotics. Is this common with tonsillitis when can I expect her to drink more again and see change? She’s still very sleepy but otherwise fine and a lot of number 1 and 2

That sounds awful so young. Only know from my own experience, had full on symptoms for 1 week and then about 1 more week of a residual slightly sore throat. So if she's still a bit sore it might be affecting the taste of things.

I would hope/expect you will see it gradually improve over the next few days.

Hi @Hello1989
Sorry to hear about your little one :( I have lots of experience with this, my 18 month old DS had tonsillitis 8 times between 5 and 16 months (had his tonsils out at 16 months).

It definitely does take time for the throat to stop being so sore, are you giving her calpol too? We found pain relief helped with controlling the sore throat enough to eat. It could also be that the antibiotics have upset her tummy a bit and she’s not got the same appetite. This should also pass in a few more days though! Sending lots of strength
