Help me create a special Halloween...

I have a 2 year old daughter and pregnant with a baby due any day.

I would like to create a really special Halloween for my 2 year old and set traditions that we can revisit in years to come.

I will have a 2-4 week old baby so nothing that requires any major organising but just some little, simple things to make a fun and special day for her.

My mind is blank. But so far I've got:

  • decorate house
  • pumpkin painting
  • invite few close friends over
  • spooky snacks (no idea what though)
  • costume

What else can I do???

Just take her trick or treating, very early, to a couple of carefully-chosen neighbours,

You're doing a mini party basically? Just add balloons, music, lights, a couple of games like pass the pumpkin. Crafts like bracelet making, stickers, (can do while sitting ;) ), rainbow rice play. I'm hiding little pumpkins with a chocolate in, my kids hold year round egg hunts with empty refillable eggs.

She's two, she wont remember.

Admit you are doing it for you.

Dress her as a cute pumpkin or witch, take her trick or treating, put her to bed happysave your enthusiasm for when she's older & understands a bit more.

To be brutally honest that sounds like a lot for a newly postpartum mum, a 'non' holiday, and a two year old.who.wknt appreciate it.

Is there a reason you want to make Halloween 'special' ? If so what you have planned is plenty...

Lone fox on you tube made some cute ghost decorations in his latest video with cheese cloth, glue and a balloon if you wanted something crafty.

Procrastinates · 27/09/2024 21:08

Gosh that sounds like a lot of work for you especially so soon after having a baby. Given shes only two I really wouldn't bother with lots of fuss this year, trick or treating would be more than sufficient.

Few games ? Bobbing for apples, one apple cut up in a basin with water.
Cooked spaghetti with some sweets in it to find.
Jelly with a cover over the top thar ahe can put her hand in.

That's the type of thing I do for mine. Then trick or treat and watch the fireworks

Exactly. It's a non holiday, and I say this as an Irish person, and we invented Halloween!

Burn a local witch at the stake ? Light torches , run through the town with pitchforks?

Fordian · 27/09/2024 22:03

Recall what you remember from being 2.

Nothing.

Chill.

Seance ?

I agree. This is really unnecessary for a two year old. By all means, start some traditions at some point but I really don't think you need to bother this year when you have a newborn.
