Help with potty training

My DS is almost 2 1/2, as I only work part time nursery have advised to try potty training over the long weekend ( for me)
They advised no pull ups, just remove nappy and see how it goes..
He has done a wee in the potty when we first brought it home, within 10 minutes. Since then he has said he needs a wee and I've asked him if he'd like to try the potty, pretty much every evening, he has sat on it but not actually done anything in it.
Today I have tried removing the nappy and all I'm getting is a screaming meltdown and him screaming for a clean nappy. I don't see how the hell I can do this if he's screaming for a nappy and trousers back on!
He also says no if he is mid poo or has just done one and I ask him if he's done a poo.
Does anyone have any advice?

It's not been very long, it can take a while before it starts to click. I'd try to keep calm and give a simple explanation that there aren't any nappies for today. This bit is hard but you have to try to pretend that you aren't watching him too much even though you've obviously got to watch all the time.

It's the blood curdling screaming and feet stomping when he's told no nappy that is the problem, he will follow me screaming constantly. How long do I leave him screaming for? I mean so bad the neighbours may call the police.

I suppose it depends on what your usual strategy is when he's screaming. In my experience kids aren't always happy to potty train, some parents would rather train regardless because they hate nappies, others don't mind keeping them in nappies until later.
