Our DD turned 2 end of June and we bought her a Yoto for her birthday. She'd been demanding to listen to the Moana soundtrack on our phones nonstop which was driving us nuts, and the Yoto has saved our sanity!
I'd say it does depend on the 2 year-old but ours is very independent and dextrous. Didn't need to be shown how to use it. She loves that it's hers and she can choose the cards and make it play the stories she wants. She often listens to it after we read to her at bedtime. It'll turn itself off after playing the card, or we can do that via the app.
We have a limited range of cards at the moment (Moana music and all the Julia Donaldson ones) so I wouldn't go crazy on those because they are such fans of repetition and familiarity at this age. It's great you can get blank cards to record what you want. They range in price, so that's also good.
It's a heavy-ish item, but DD is tiny and carts it about fine. It's also robust, and the cards can withstand a bit too. I LOVE the fact we can control the Yoto via an app, and play the cards independently of the Yoto itself via our phones. Godsend for car journeys.
My nephew had a Tonie that got passed down to his little brother. They both really liked it. The youngest is almost 4 and only uses it occasionally now - I guess the novelty has worn off. The eldest is 8 now and there's no way he'd use the Tonie but I could see how he'd make use of a Yoto. There are stories available for a number of age ranges, plus the Yoto radio.
So, definitely more longevity in the Yoto. Better value for money I'd say.
