Poo - DS will not do one in loo or potty, always his pants - he's 3

I've tried asking him why but he'll wait for pants to be put on and then sneak off somewhere to dump in them and then come and tell me. He did manage a poo once and I really heaped on the praise but that was ages ago. He's 3.4 and it's a nightmare going out. He wees in the loo standing up but only if I take him as he rarely tells me he needs. More often or not he just pisses himself.

Amazingly he is dry during the night though.

Ds is 3.4 and is exactly the same. I can keep him dry during the daay by constantly reminding him to go but he never (or that should read extremely rarely) takes himself to the toilet. Poo situation also the same. Shall watch this thread with interest. He has been "training" since last September but we are far from "there" yet.

Glad I'm not the only one. NOt helped by his father dumping in the downstairs loo last night and blocking it. Very inconvenient having to pick DS up and run madly up the stair like a rugby winger to get him to the loo on time.

I am sick of shit!!!

Hi there

My DD was a nightmare with the poos as well although fine with the wees. We went for the "no pullups" stay indoors for a week approach and she did it in her pants for 5 days on the trot. Finally I was about to give up and try again in a few months when I decided to try good old fashioned bribery - a piece of chocolate for every poo in the potty or toilet and that worked immediately. I kept it up for a week or so (large quantities of Easter Eggs which she would have been getting in small servings anyway) and then "ran out" and it all continued to work bar the occasional accident.

I did chocolate with my 3. Ds1 has asd and it helped to break it down into small steps particularly when he developed a fear of the toilet. So he got a sweetie for pooing in a pull up standing next to the toilet at first,on a potty next to the toilet, also 'trying' merits a sweet even if nothing happens.
I think it really helped having dh role model a lot and he's a fan of toilet humour too- so lots of humourous discussion of it, bring superheroes into it 'do a poo like spiderman' has been said in our house, read books about it( 'who's on the loo' is good).
Getting them comfortable, laughing and foussed on the toilet is key!
