Gift for 5 year old boy with SEN

DS has just started reception and has been invited to a birthday party (whole class invitation). As they've only just started he doesn't really know the boy but from what I've seen at pick up he has quite severe SEN. I do have a box of toys I've picked up in sales, Argos 2 for £15 or whatever, but I don't think any of them are going to be appropriate. Could anyone please give me any suggestions?

The Zuru robo fish went down well with my dd's friend last year. I have got him a flying disc launcher from Amazon for his upcoming 6th birthday, which I think will be a hit. It does depend on what the child is like though, and what their needs are, it's tricky when you don't know them at all. Are there any clues on the invite? For example, if there's pictures of dinosaurs, a dino soft toy would be a safe bet. Also, can you just ask the child's mum what they're into? That's what I do if I'm not sure!

Thank you for your suggestions. Because it's the start of the year and we're all still strangers effectively I felt a bit weird asking the mum directly, although appreciate that may just be my own anxiety.

Party is at the local soft play so no hints on the invite, unfortunately!

Totally understand about feeling weird about asking, I struggle with things like that too! How about a generic soft toy? Maybe a dog or something suitably boyish, then it doesn't matter what his needs and abilities are because everyone can cuddle a soft toy!

You could use the excuse of asking for tips on presents to strike up a conversation and perhaps make a new friend. Otherwise a cuddly toy sounds like a safe bet. I would assume that dinosaurs were popular if there were dinosaurs on the invitation.
