One year old escaping pushchair

She can get out of the straps , twist around and stand up which is a bit alarming.

I don’t see any other children do this and wondering if I’m missing a trick? (Straps done up tight makes no difference!)

You need to get yourself a set of reins which then thread through the strap holes and are tied just tight enough to stop this. With the reins on she won't be able get her arms out to get up.
How old is she?

sassasku · 24/09/2024 16:41

14 months. I’m trying to picture how that works, is it safe?

Reins will do it. They're around her whole body and clip to the pushchair.

Drop the footplate too so her feet just dangle. Then she can't push her full weight up if that's what she does. Reins will work though.

Is walking and or a buggy board not an option ?

sassasku · 24/09/2024 17:08

She can’t walk yet Smile

Oh right then that's a no then. Would she prefer one of those sit down buggy boards?

BrokenSushiLook · 24/09/2024 17:11

Try one of these : www.amazon.co.uk/Houdini-Stop-Chest-Strap-equipment/dp/B005EM43HK/

faltlines · 24/09/2024 17:43

DD does this and she can escape from the extra Houdini strap too! She is double jointed and can just wriggle her way out, if I attach it higher up to make it harder it practically reaches her chin and is too tight around her neck. Shes a bit older so can walk sometimes, but generally I have to bribe her with snacks or let her walk for a bit until she gets tired enough to want to sit down.

This is what I had to do with DD2, it really helped.

MissRainbowBrite · 24/09/2024 17:55

You need the traditional style reins then once she has them on with the strap you hold onto that needs to go through where the shoulder straps of the pushchair are. What buggy do you have?

I think I’m being slow as I’m not seeing how it works, I might have to get reins and see. It’s only a cheap pushchair so that probably doesn’t help.

DD2 is 20, I remember the struggle of keeping her in the buggy and that the reins were my saviour but not the specifics of how it worked.

ThereIsATInWater · 24/09/2024 18:15

Try crossing the shoulder straps across her front if you can.

So do up the crotch and waist bands, then left shoulder strap attach to the right side and right to left, so they cross across (!) Her chest.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 24/09/2024 18:17

You don't need to bit of the reins which you hold. Just the bit which clips to the body. Then clip that to the existing pushchair rings with the provided clips.

sassasku · 24/09/2024 18:45

It doesn’t have rings. I wonder if that’s the problem.

Just do as everyone else with a child that can get out of straps get reins and the hooks u clip them to, it’s really not unusual.

You need to lengthen the crotch bit and tighten the shoulder straps. This moves the buckle higher up their body and gives a smaller hole to escape through. Also now it's winter, try putting her coat on backwards over the straps.

If she can't walk what is she wanting to do? Just flop to the floor? Maybe take her to a muddy park and let her- a few splashes in puddle might make her prefer the pushchair.
