easyJet and travelling with children with different surnames

I'm going on holiday next week with my two children, DH not coming, kids both have his last name and I've not changed mine yet. I'm travelling with easyjet, shall I take anything other than birth and marriage certificate? Do I need a signed letter from him to prove I'm not kidnapping them?!

By law, you can be asked for proof that the other parent with PR is allowing the travel. It's nothing to do with Easyjet either - passport control in BOTH countries you're travelling between could ask for this. Where are you going to, and for how long?

Just take it anyway. Takes a a minute to write, why wouldn't you?

Where are you travelling to? As PP has said its not to do with easyjet but the border control.

I always travel with a letter from DS's dad but thus far haven't been asked for it. However I do believe Italy can be harder to get into with different surnames

I would definitely take a letter signed by your DH, a copy of his passport photo page (showing his signature) and the children's birth certificates. I have the same surname as my DC but am divorced from their father and travel with them a lot. Most of the time it's been fine but there have been 2 occasions when the paperwork hasn't been exactly what the border official wanted. The DC were questioned and it came down to the border officer's judgement whether we were allowed in or turned around and sent back to the UK. It's better just to have the paperwork and save the worry.

Definitely take a letter. Not myself hut a friend had this issue recently.
She had no letter and offering to call dad wasn't enough apparently.

Missed their flight.
Dad got a taxi to the airport and managed to sort it and they did make another flight but the stress my friend had was unreal.

You may have 0 issues. Probably will have 0 issues but you never know...

As others said, nothing to do with Easyjet but with border control. IME (also have different surname) some countries are stricter than others and sometimes it’s just luck or not. Most times when I reenter the UK I am being asked to show the birth certificates (I travel with copies never the original). I usually have a letter too, you will find templates online.

Thanks all, going to Málaga Spain for a week with my dad and step mum and siblings. I'll take a print of DHs passport and a signed letter as well as both birth certificates and marriage too.
