Speck of blood in poo & diarrhoea - 12 week old (pic attached)

Sorry for the photo. My 12 week old had diarrhoea this morning, it was very, very watery in some places but pasty in others. When I was cleaning her I also noticed 1 small fleck of blood. she usually goes every day but didn’t yesterday.

she’s switched in the past 2 days to being exclusively formula fed. We were combi feeding before but only 2 feeds a day so I can’t imagine it being that. She’s also had a bad cold/potentially Covid for the past week- we the in laws last weekend and they since have tested positive. Could it be this that’s causing both the blood and the diarrhea?

other than being sniffly/blocked nose/coughing she is fine in herself and doesn’t seem in pain

should I ring the docs or observe over the next few days?

thanks in advance

Could be a milk intolerance. Or just irritation from the cold and the change. I’d monitor for a few days.

It’s very shiny which suggests mucus. Is it always like this or just since having a cold/covid?

@Choosingmiddleschool it usually is quite shiny especially when she only goes once every 2 or 3 days and they are quite explosive

The past week or so she started becoming more regular her stools have been smaller and they weren’t shiny then, I thought our poo problems were behind us until this morning!

My 14 week olds have always looked like that and she is formula fed

Superscientist · 19/09/2024 11:36

That's how my daughters looked and she has multiple food allergies. Given the blood and the fact it has changed with a change in feeds I would get a GP appointment. It could have been that the 2 bottles a day was the edge of the amount of dairy they could tolerate and going to fully dairy is too much.

Colds can also cause mucus in poos due to the snot!

Thank you everyone, I rang the health visitor and she thinks it’s just a stomach bug at the minute. She said if it gets heavier or continues to ring GP and they’ll check for allergies.
