Is a 9am birthday party too early?

It is DS's birthday in the next couple of months.
He has been really keen on a trampoline park birthday. The majority of guests would be between 3-5 years old (DS included).

The only time slot on a weekend they offer kids that age to have a trampoline birthday party is 9am. It lasts for one hour with 30 minutes for food after.

Which means they'd be having 'lunch' and cake at 10am and home at 1030.

Please give me some perspective - this sounds ridiculously early for a birthday, even for kids aged 3-5. Am I totally delusional and this is in fact the norm and a totally standard accepted birthday party time?

Would you book this?

I wouldn't go. Not because we couldn't get there in time but because then I would have an entire day of shitty, over tired kids to deal with afterwards.

Just to clarify - there are no other slots. The only slot they offer on weekends for his age group (3-5s) is 9am. For any later slots all kids need to be 4+. However, he is only turning 4 and one of the oldest in his class so a lot of the guests will be under 4.

But thank you - clearly I am not delusional! I don't know who decided it was a good idea to only make 9ams available for younger kids' parties!

I may park this one for a couple of years till all guests "qualify" for the later slots and try think of something else.

I think that’s a good idea @december2020, hope you find something else just as fun.

Do you know the mums to ask around? Just put it on the whatsapp group or ask in the playground? I'd say too early for me but if it were being paid for and were a particularly nice place I'd probably make the effort and see it as a nice early rise for the rest of the day!

how about offer to take him and one or 2 friends for a trampoline play date some afternoon? And have a non trampoline party at a more practical time?

crostini · 17/09/2024 21:31

I would go, but I wouldn't be happy about it! 😂

TortillasAndSalsa · 17/09/2024 21:33

My ds isn't even up at 9am on the weekend. 9am is far too early for a party

Sounds great to me! Small children are at their best in the morning! It's the afternoon parties I hate!

This. I'm really surprised at all the negative responses.

Frozenberries · 17/09/2024 21:38

my daughter had a party that was 10-12 once and I worried that was early. They had hot dogs for lunch at 11. Not many ate them! I would go to your DS party but I would be a bit 😬 about the time. However be nice to get it all done by 11 and still have the rest of the day.

Daffyyellow · 17/09/2024 21:38

Nope. Mine weren’t early risers. 9am is like a school day.

ItsTheGAGGGGGGGG · 17/09/2024 21:39

It’d be a no from me

DrCoconut · 17/09/2024 21:55

Weekend mornings are for lie ins and mooching round after a hard week. 9am is way way too early for a party. I also find it annoying that most kids activities are early mornings on weekends. Why not have some afternoons so people can have a break from early starts without missing out?

madderthanapissedonchicken · 17/09/2024 21:57

We did DS’s last party at 9am as it was the only time the venue did it. I was really worried it would be too early for people, but all the parents loved it, still had the rest of the day to do what they wanted & as the DCs were 4, they didn’t do lie ins anyway. A couple of the parents went on the hold their DC’s parties at the same time / place too

bumbledeedum · 17/09/2024 21:58

Can't believe the responses (haven't read them all)! What 3-5 year olds aren't up and about for the day before 8am anyway? I'd rather go to a party at 9am and have the day free than at 2pm in the middle of the day.

DrCoconut · 17/09/2024 21:59

To clarify the last bit was about venues generally not the OP

Grabyourpassportandmyhand · 17/09/2024 22:00

I wouldn’t host a party at 9am or attend one.

I think the venue is taking the piss offering a 9am party slot. An example of pure greed. I’d assume it is much cheaper than an afternoon party?

annlee3817 · 17/09/2024 22:00

I'd be happy to get a party out of the way and still have the rest of the day, I'd rather a snack that lunch though, as the food would probably just go to waste

DrCoconut · 17/09/2024 22:01

@bumbledeedum mine! I don't seem to make early birds, they have all loved a lie in since more or less birth.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 17/09/2024 22:03

No thanks, sorry!

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 17/09/2024 22:03

I would go for the birthday kids sake but I'd hate to be up and dragging the kids out that early. Mine do sleep in a bit on the weekend though and aren't the quickest at getting sorted.

justasmalltownmum · 17/09/2024 22:05

11am start
Food 12.30

Jingleballs2 · 17/09/2024 22:09

It’s knackered parents that would need to get everyone up and out the house though. Not everyone wants that on a Saturday morning.

Pyjamatimenow · 17/09/2024 22:13

Yes we’ve got one at ten this weekend and it’s causing some issues
