Do you know of any siblings who share a bday?

My daughter's birthday is tomorrow and I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant and feeling all kinds of potential signs and symptoms of labour.

I'm now laying here going "OMG what if they end up sharing a bday?!"

Firstly... what are the bloody chances?! 🤣

And secondly... would it be awful for them?

I wonder if you or anyone you know of shares a bday with a sibling and did they like it/ hate it/ love it?

How did they navigate it?

I'm wondering how common/ rare it is!

My mum and her brother shared the same birthday 5 years apart

mateow · 16/09/2024 20:03

Had dd1 c section booked on ds' bday which I wasn't really happy about but she had other ideas and came a week early, didn't want to share her bday !!

My best friend at school shared her bday with her mom AND sister ! What are the chances having both your kids on your birthday !

My grandad and cousin did, "best birthday present he'd ever had" haha

I also remember taking my DD to a birthday party, it was a joint party for DD's friend and her brother born exactly the same day 2 years apart- the mum was also 39wks pregnant with #3 AND it was 2 weeks before Christmas Confused

(Baby #3 ended up being born a few days later so not on the same date as the other 2!)

I wouldn't worry about them sharing a birthday though, you'll just deal with it. Nothing much you can do if baby decides to arrive anyway!

Yes I do. Girl a work with. Daughters, 3 years apart

Spenditlikebeckham · 16/09/2024 20:06

A dd and ds born 11 years apart exactly.. 2 x ds's 2 days apart with 14 years apart..

scrivette · 16/09/2024 20:06

A friend is a twin and her daughter was born on the same day (and son very close).

I share my birthday with my older sister. I’d say the main thing is to make a fuss of each of them separately on their birthday. I hated sharing parties.

ThatHappyOliveTurtle · 16/09/2024 20:08

My 2 stepdaughters were born on the same day, 2 years apart, to different Mum’s!

tinyshoulders · 16/09/2024 20:10

My second was born two days before my eldest’s second birthday. I’d much rather it had been the same day!

Tadpolecat · 16/09/2024 20:21

I know of 2 young siblings who share a birthday. No idea if they care or not, probably not so much yet.

PhilsMajicHat · 16/09/2024 20:29

I know someone with 3 kids, born 11th, 12th and 13th of the same month, with I think 2 years between each one. Not 100% on the years, but the dates are defo 11th, 12th, 13th

A woman I work with has 3 dc with the same birthday. 1 singleton then twins, two years younger.

The twins were actually born by planned section at 38 weeks - and when they were told what week it would need to be, they requested their dd's birthday and the hospital were able to agree. Their thinking was that it would be better in the long run to have all 3 birthdays on the same day rather than dd1 then the twins a day or two later. I see their logic tbh!

Sounds like you might know the same person that @Scutterbug does.

My sister and I share a birthday 2 years apart and my DD and ds are two years and two days apart. Never really had problems. My Dsis and I always had shared parties (but our own cakes) and my own kids had some shared parties, and some separate (usually one weekend apart so we could fully enjoy each one)
I agree with the point a previous poster made though about names, my Dsis and I have the same initials (different middle names) as well as the same birthday (different year) and whenever we are on the same database (doctor etc) we run into problems. I was once refused a mortgage on the basis that I had already bought a house on the street with a mortgage with that company...no, that was in fact my sister! Luckily I now live in a totally different country so don't have the same problems :)

My friends eldest and youngest sgare a birthday (2 kids in the middle)

I share a birthday with my niece, my daughter shares birthday with my mother (and my next door neighbour, her Scout leader, one of her own best friends and a friend of DD2s)

SquigglyNonsense · 16/09/2024 20:39

DH's youngest sibling was born on his oldest sibling's 6th birthday. And there was 6 of them, all singletons. MIL had her tubes tied when the youngest was born 😁

Livedandlearned · 16/09/2024 20:51

My sisters share a birthday two years apart.

Bectoria2006 · 16/09/2024 20:51

Yes my mums sister was born exactly a year after she was

rzb · 16/09/2024 21:01

That's a relief; I'd mis-skim-read the title as asking about siblings who shared a baby...

Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/09/2024 21:04

Yes, my friends dc share a birthday - they are 2 years apart.

LindorDoubleChoc · 16/09/2024 21:04

Yes. Just one set. The sister is 1 year older than the brother.

That brother (my friend) has children born 2 days apart.

I have another friend with children born 2 days apart (15th and 17th Sept as it happens!).

SingingSands · 16/09/2024 21:07

I know sisters who share a birthday. It was a sore point when they were young but they grew out of it as older teens (sharing an 18th and 21st party!).

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 16/09/2024 21:17

My DH shares a birthday with one of his 4 siblings exactly 10 years apart but it's never mentioned at all it's bizarre, in my family it would be a huge 'thing'.

Only time it ever comes up in conversation is if we and the sibling both want childcare from their parents the same weekend to do birthday stuff.

Lovelydovey · 16/09/2024 21:30

My dad shared a birthday with his sister who was 11 years younger. He also shared a birthday with my youngest brother (his youngest son). We had great shared family parties and my dad never once complained about sharing his birthday.

Now he's not with us it makes that day rather bittersweet.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 16/09/2024 21:33

Yes, my DH and his brother both share a birthday, 5 years apart.

it’s been a bit of a long running sore point - I suspect my in laws didn’t handle it well as they were growing up.
