Baby carrying & clothing

Hello,

Just wondering what people do for baby wearing in winter?

Last year our October baby was tiny enough to baby wear and zip up inside my coat. This year, she’s walking already so she’ll need something that will keep her warm while carrying and allow me to put her down at the park etc.

Snowsuit - too restrictive and will overheat

Fleece puddlesuit - could get too warm? What would you layer underneath?

Thin puddlesuit - too cold? But would easily last longer if I size up.

Any thoughts would be appreciated and also any brand recommendations!

DS just used to wear normal outdoor clothes. So a thin puddle suit over normal trousers and jumper. It doesn’t really get that cold in the UK! On the one hand they will be colder as they are little, and are not running about, on the other they will be snuggled up to you so stay warmer that way.

They make covers for slings like this:

And a thinner version:

We used the Mamalila cover in the depths of Canadian winters (over a snowsuit), and that seemed to work fine. It’s just an extra layer of insulation.

The new Allrounder cover is a particularly adaptable cover and includes fastening straps for different types of slings and carriers including woven wraps and buckle carriers. Some parents don't need a babywearing jacket or they need a solution that bo...

Update in case anyone else is in a similar situation - we went with a muddy puddles puddlesuit! No fleece but it has a cotton lining. The shell material is completely waterproof but not plastic and super breathable, feels like cotton. So it’s comfortable for both of us when she’s in it.

During the cold snap and snow this last week, we layered up with a fleece and normal clothes underneath, and just a blanket wrapped around her. It worked a treat. Use an umbrella in the rain.

Paired the puddlesuit with a pair of Juicy Bumbles leather slip on shoes but just got a pair of water resistant booties from H&M to now see us into winter.

We just used to stick a bundle bean cover over the top of baby/carrier

@LateNightReads yeah I saw those! Trouble is we wanted something that would let us put her down so it had to work both in the carrier and out. Think we’ve found a good solution for us! ☺️

Don’t know how thick yours is but the child shouldn’t be wearing anything too thick/hot in a baby carrier. The advice is to dress them normally and then put the warm layers on over the carrier

@LiquoriceAllsorts2 yes exactly why I was struggling to work it out!
