What did you do for your child's 1st birthday? 🎈
My daughter turns 1 in December and I have no idea (plus money is currently tight)
Thank you 🎁

Just buy a cake and a balloon and she'll be happy

We had a simple sponge cake with blueberries and red currants, then went to an aquarium for a day out.

Grandparents came round for tea. DD fell asleep.

Moretetrafish · 14/09/2024 11:13

DDs is in summer so we made a tradition of going to the beach and taking cupcakes and candles with us. Are you looking for gift ideas or what to do on the day?

Too long ago to remember.but it won't have been anything more that a Colin the Caterpillar, a pen year old doesn't know it's their birthday

Don't put yourself in debt for a first birthday! They'll be overwhelmed by more than a few presents and will no doubt like the box & wrapping paper more. Then they'll forget about the whole thing

Anisty · 14/09/2024 11:38

I baked a simple sandwich cake. I iced it, put choc buttons on to make a clock face and used writing icing to draw the hands pointing to 1 o clock and a mouse. Grandparents came. Few finger foods. Sang happy birthday and hickory dickory dock. Opened presents. That was it.

Keep it small, and normal routine. Get some pics. Perfect day.

Thanks everyone and sorry for the spelling error in the title!! No idea how that happened!

I have bought her a few gifts for her birthday and Christmas but honestly didn't see much point in making a fuss when she genuinely won't understand. So many people I know have had elaborate parties for the 1st birthday, even hired rooms etc. I don't really get it. But it's made me feel like a grump for not intending to do anything like that. I'll be unfortunately working on her birthday, which breaks my heart, so I just wanted the evening to be spent playing with my daughter and enjoying her new gifts. 🎁

Cake at the baby class he was going to at the time and tea with the family as he has cousins with similar timed birthdays. Sobbed when asked to open presents and had no interest in them!

We just did cake, presents and balloons at home then took her swimming which is what we usually would have done on that day (and she enjoys). Most of our NCT group did do parties but I feed they were mostly for the parents (all good if you want to have one but not necessary for the child’s sake).
