Should school have told the parent?

If a Year 1 child was pushed into a table and grabbed on the arm very tightly by a year 2 child should the parent of the year 1 child be told? Year 1 child not seriously hurt but told their parent and said the other child was told to say sorry to them.

Or is this sort of thing part of daily life at school and teachers can’t be expected to pass all of this on?

Unless the child was obviously injured or very distressed then, no, I would not expect a teacher to come and tell me this.

Being honest, I probably would have expected to be told with my first DC but I was unreasonable: this is part of day to day school life. If they were obviously hurt and or upset yes parent should be informed.

Sounds like this was handled at the time, child not hurt, other child apologised. Done. What would making a big fuss do? I suppose they will keep an eye out to make sure it doesn’t keep happening.

Only if it caused an injury. My youngest got punched in the face in Y1 by an older child. We were given an incident form and a teacher talked to me, but it was because it very likely was going to give him a black eye. I can see there may be times when it should be discussed with a parent, but generally speaking, probably not if there was no injury.

Thanks everyone. This is what I thought too.

If there was an injury like a bruise then a parent should be told, but probably only via a normal accident form. It was dealt with at the time and this stuff happens frequently in schools.

@tractive my friend is the parent of the year 1 child. We both are very understanding re schools and teachers (but sometimes too much in the past) so wanted
