Silly question about pramsuits

Sorry bit of a silly question , I was looking at fleece oramsuitss for my almost 14 week old as temp here was 6 degrees this morning gone up to 11 now . I'm just wondering for the likes if this pramsuit do you pit their normal clothes under let's say a vest and bodysuit ? Obviously don't want her to get cold but over heating would be worse

Yes :) we had one very similar. I’d dress in vest and bodysuit, or long sleeve vest with leggings and a cardigan, and then pramsuit over top. Basically just treat the pram suit as a coat and take it off when you get where you’re going. You may then also want a blanket you can adjust temp with.

I was worried about overheating too, but remember that you’re stomping along with the pram getting warmer, while they are just lying/sitting so will get cold more easily.

Yes you treat pramsuit as their coat. And then play with blankets if needed.

Yes, normal clothes under. Although I'd look for one with hands and feet for when it gets properly cold!

Also, if they're puffy rather than fleece don't leave them on in the car as you can't tighten the belts enough (apologies if you already know that but it's one of those things I only learned once I had a baby!).

Thank you yes I'm also neurotic about her car seat 😅😂

Dts were august babies and never wore a puffy pram suit. They had fleece ones with hands and feet and then cosy toes over the top. The puffy ones were a massive pain in the arse taking them on and off in between car / shops etc.

I live in London though, it doesn't get that cold. If I lived in the Hebrides it would be a bit different!

ShoopShoopShoopShoop · 12/09/2024 12:48

I wouldn't even bother. They're a pain to get on and off, and if you're in and out you have to take it off and on every time you go in/out

Just out a blanket on them.

@Snowdrops17 No experience to add OP, but where is that pramsuit pictured from please?

Snowdrops17 · 12/09/2024 12:59

Lots of people will say just use blankets, or those star-shaped fleece wraps, but if you have a wiggly baby, those are off in seconds (or at least they were for mine).

My tip for pramsuits/snowsuits is get one with two zips up the front, much easier to get baby in and out, and if you go into a shop or café, you can open both zips and easily get out as many arms/legs as you think you need to to keep them from getting too hot. (Legs are easier than arms.) Even my extra-light sleeper, I could unzip and get legs out without disturbing her.

I second the suggestion for attached mitts and feet, many babies are impressively good at getting socks, mitts, bootees, and the like off.

Dress your baby in one more layer than you are wearing. If you have a top, jumper, and coat on- baby is in vest, onesie/top and leggings, jumper/pramsuit, and then probably a blanket on top (depending on the thickness of the pram suit). Some are really thick like little duvets.

We live in London but never used a pram suit. Thought they were too puffy and warm! We just did a coat and then a footmuff.
