Advice on babies flat spot on head

Is there anything I can do or get that will help rectify the flat spot on my dd's head. It's at the back but only on one side due to her sleeping preference. I've tried to coax her to turn to the other side, but she's a little stubborn

I bought The Perfect Noggin for my daughter to sleep in and it helped a lot. Google it and explains the science and the safety aspect of it.

I also had 2 Lovenest pillows, one for when she was on her play mat and one for in the pram.

You don't say how old she is but keep her off the back of her head as much as possible so use the carrier instead. If she's old enough a Bumbo chair or similar. Change feeding and sleeping positions when your holding her so she's not on the flat part.

By doing all this we managed to avoid a helmet. Out DDs head shape improved several mm x

She's only 6 weeks old. I'll have a look into what you've suggested. Tysm for responding x

No worries. My daughter was 8 weeks when I started to notice it and 11 weeks when I bought the perfect Noggin.

She's still so young you should be able to correct with repositioning. The lady I saw said their heads are still very soft up to 4/5 months. X

You dont need to spend £150 on a fancy bit of foam. Lots of babies get flat spots but lots of tummy time / babywearing in the daytime will give it chance to round out. NHS website says it can take 1-2years to fully round out. You could also ask your HV - I was worried about DD1 so asked the HV, and she said in her experience it was very mild. She was right - DD1's head had rounded out by the time she was 1.

If your baby has a preference for sleeping on one side, it might be worth visiting a qualified paediatric osteopath. I took DD2 to one as she had been breech and very scrunched when born. She moved her head around much more freely after we had 4 sessions. If you are in London, I recommend the Osteopathic Centre for Children. They are a charity who offer a "pay what you can" model, so very affordable.

Lots of tummy time, baby carrier time and basically anything that isn’t them lying on their back in one position.

We were also told to rotate which way round we put the baby in the cot as often they’ll turn to face you/the room etc

I think you can get pillows and positioner things but I have no idea which ones, if any, are medically recommended.

Check out the noggin doctor on Facebook and get a perfect noggin.

The NHS/HV will tell you it'll round out, it won't.

A tiny minority of babies have a problem with their skull that requires surgery.

Up to 1 in 5 babies have slightly flattened heads. It will become less noticeable as they get older and get hair. It doesn't impact their development and doesn't need treatment.

Why pay £££ for treatment that isn't needed and could be uncomfortable for your baby?
