Dressing a 3 week old - do dungarees count as one layer?

All the books say a baby should wear two layers, e.g. a vest and a babygro but whatabout if there are wearing dungarees or another little outfit? Do the dungarees count as a layer even though they are sleeveless?

not on top, needs a tshirt to count imho but I really would n't stress about it . think of how many layers you have on and add another for him/her such as a cardi which can be removed if too warm.

Go with what you are wearing and put a blanket on top.

How would you feel in a thick vest? Would you feel it's a layer? I would, personally, ditto dungarees. If you would be comfortable outside in what baby is wearing, then put a blanket on top of baby, and go like that - take a spare blanket in case it gets colder.

I would count it as 1 layer on the bottom but not at the top. So I'd include a cardi or sweater.

Depends on what the dungarees are made of to begin with. General principle to start from is that they should wear one more layer (or so) than you would. If you were wearing (a larger version of) the outfit that the baby is wearing, do you think you'd be too cold, just right or too warm?

Probably if wearing dungarees and a long-slleved underlayer I'd feel tempted to add a cardigan as well; if wearing dungarees and a short-sleeved underlayer I definitely would.

Check the back of the chest after ten-fifteen minutes ir so to see if they seem too hot or cold, and adjust accordingly.
