AUTISM - DLA

We have been receiving DLA for our boy since he was 4 years and 3 months. At that point we were told he wasn't old enough to be eligible for the Mobility Component.

Hes now coming up to 6 soon and we have just realised that DLA were meant to send claim package forms out for when he turned 5 years for the Mobility Component to see if we were eligible. We never got one of these claim package forms.

If we were to ring DLA up and now try to claim the Mobility Component would they back date it from when he was eligible (when he turned 5) or would they just start it from the date of application?

Of course we know this is just as much our faults for forgetting about it as it is theirs for not sending the forms out, and we aren't bothered either way what is to happen but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and what the outcome was. As I know sometimes if you don't ask then they don't exactly tell you the FULL information.

Thanks ⭐️

We had to start from scratch when claiming for my grandson. So fully filling in all the dla forms yet again.

When does your child's dla claim end? Is it worth just waiting till then?

Ahh okay! I'm sure it ends in January (or around that time anyway) so it might be worth just waiting then and doing it altogether!

My son gets high rate for both. You can claim high rate mobility from three (which he had with high care from two). If you are going to apply under severe mental impairment (horrible wording) or virtually unable to walk have a look at contact a families guide. I believe you can call them too for advice.
