Hi all.
I'm a first time mum and I sometimes go back and forth with the question 'is my boy falling behind ?'
So my boy was almost four weeks early. He's one next week.
He can: crawl, cruise furniture, pull up, stand independently for a few seconds at a time, and walk with our hands.
He can wave confidently and knows if you say wave goodbye to wave(doesn't have to be shown) he also knows if people go to the front door or put on their coats they are leaving and waves
Occasionally claps when happy.
Copies us when we sighs or yawn and sighs back
Copies us when we cough and fake coughs
Can sort of say 'uh oh' when he drops something but it's often a bit like 'uh uh uh uh or ah ah ah ah ohhhh '
Can almost say dog but we get a lot of 'do do do do do dog '
If you ask him where mummy/ Daddy/the dog is he looks in the right direction.
He loves adults and is very friendly but sometimes is a little more nervous of unpredictable babies/toddlers and will stick close to us.

My concerns are the following:

He doesn't point yet ? When did your ones point ?
He doesn't bring me toys he's playing with.
He loves stacking everything.
No real words yet.
He gets extremely upset when having nappy changed or clothes changed.
He does respond to his name but doesn't when he's busy playing or doing something he's interested in.
No 'm' sounds babbling but does babble a lot.
Thoughts ? Would you be concerned?

Sounds really normal. Not all kids do everything at the same time. Mine walked at 10 months, my best friends kids both took their sweet time and didnt walk until they were 16 and 17 months. They both talked before mine though 🤷🏻‍♀️
All kids are aged 10-7 now and no sn or anything.

There is a huge range of normal. How was your last check up?
If you are concerned maybe ask at the next check up to put your mind at ease.

Thanks for the comment. My last check up was when he was 10 months and all on track then but I still can't help but worry ! Xx

Your boy sounds totally normal. My DS is a little older (14 months) and he is nowhere near pulling himself up, cruising or talking, but he's not my first so I don't have your anxiety and I am 100% confident my son is developing beautifully.

Absolutely nothing you have said would worry me at all. It's hard with your first, but try and enjoy your lovely boy. He sounds pretty much perfect to me 😊

Honestly the first time mum worry is something else. Thanks for being so reassuring xxx

Your boy sounds perfectly normal, please don't worry at all. They all pick up different things at different times.

My babies have all focussed on one thing at a time during the first 18months or so. So while learning to walk, language progressed more slowly. Then once that was masters language would burst forwards. So it sounds to me like he's working hard on movement right now and so he's not thinking about sounds. I bet once had walking his vocal sounds will get much more varied

It does sound all within the normal range. Pointing was at very different ages for my kids, but only one was pointing well before their birthday. Many do it much later, and I've heard this is particularly true of eldest/only children - they can oftenget their needs met without a lot of pointing so they are less motivated to practise it.

Normal. My DS2 is the same. DS1 never really pointed btw, not until he was well beyond him being able to communicate by talking.

Wow that's really interesting about pointing. Maybe I need to relax.
