3 Yo still tiptoe walks

Hi,

I posted here almost 2 years ago asking about my daughters tiptoe walking. She had only just started at walking at this point and I recall most posters saying not to worry but someone said if it continues past 3 it might be an issue.

Anyway she is 3 now and she still occasionally does it. She mostly walks flat footed, but inside the house will sometimes swap to tiptoes. I've asked her why a few times and she either just gives me a cheeky look and drops her feet back to flat, or will say something like 'because the floor is wet/cold or 'because I like it'.

I'm trying to stay away from Google but I know it can be a sign of ASD but worse things like MD so I'm wondering if it's time to see a GP.

Has anyone got any experience of toe walking in children her age? Tia!

Same here. I remember being a bit worried about my DS's toe walking when he was 3, then more worried at 4. He's 5 now, and I think he still does it, but it's definitely less noticeable and less frequent.

He's been assessed for ASD, but was ultimately discharged. He's borderline enough not to warrant a diagnosis.

So in my experience, toe walking isn't necessarily a cause for concern. Maybe your DD has some sensory sensitivities, maybe she'll grow out of it, who knows? It's just one piece of a wider picture, and I'd just focus on that bigger picture.

Hey i have 2 autistic children 14dd and 9ds, 3 ‘normal’ children 12ds 9dd and 8month dd, my 2 autistic children never tiptoed they actually are both heavy footed and stomp alot lol and my ‘normal’ dd tiptoed until she was about 6/7, we used to just remind her everytime she done it to stop and walk proper and she eventually grew out of it or just stopped doing it 🤷🏻‍♀️ i wouldn’t worry unless it is accompanied with other ‘quirks’ xx
