basically as the title goes.. baby is 15 weeks old, and you can guarantee he will scream the house down between the hours of 3pm and 5pm! he's not hungry, he's not wet or soiled, he will have had a nap about 2ish..

any ideas as to what it might be?

It's called the witching hour, google it and you should find some stuff, no experience with it i'm afraid!

Sounds like colic/the witching hour. It's stressful but it should pass. I found skin to skin cuddles helped my two.

Durdledore · 31/08/2024 22:58

If you’re breastfeeding, I found my third baby responded well to me just sitting on the sofa and letting her feed/sleep for that time as soon as witching hour came.

To remind you they're in charge and you are but a passenger...

Witching hour, they do outgrow it - but it's bloody hard. Warm baths, baby massage, calmness in the house can help. On really bad days you might need infacol or similar products to help. Take it in turns with baby as it can be relentless and really draining.

Does mum have a baby carrier or stretchy wrap? Holding baby close in the carrier or wrap and sitting/nursing for hours was the only way I got through the witching hour.

she does have a sling... we have found that carrying him and moving tend to calm him! we assumed we were doing something wrong!

Nothing wrong 😊 do whatever works to calm baby (and mum). Rocking and swaying too, or gentle dancing with baby in carrier/sling/arms. I got my husband to wear the sling occasionally too to take turns and give me some breathing space!

Mine did that. Bloody awful. She grew out of it x

showersandflowers · 01/09/2024 06:52

I agree with @Durdledore. We got through witching hour by making sure kid always had a nipple in her mouth. It was always around dinner time for us so DH would make dinners I could eat with one hand/ that he could easily feed me 😅

Soitis83 · 01/09/2024 07:00

Mine did until I realised he was just overtired. Shorter wake windows helped this now it doesn't happen at all, he's 12 weeks.

thursdaymurderclub · 02/09/2024 17:23

oh my goodness i have to thank you all for this information, we never knew about this 'witching hour' and now we do, we are ready! he prefers to be walked, outside is good but equally happy just up and down the hall.. and rather than wait until the screaming gets out of hand, we just accept our hour of walking.. he's currently asleep in his chair, coldplay in the background, about 20 mins of just walking and hes gone!

Is DD monitoring his wake windows mine is a few weeks behind but if I don't pay close attention to her tired signs she gets over tired and come 7pm there is hell to pay . I have to be on a strict schedule during the day for naps as in when I see she is tired I bring her to a dark room with white noise and put her down for a nap if this is off for her or delayed she gets over tired and the rest of the day goes to . I'm using the huckleberry app to log all her naps and it gives you a predicted "sweet spot" to put them down for their next nap mine usually wants to go a bit earlier but it's actually been very helpful . I had about 6 weeks of what your DD is going through I honestly thought I was going to lose my mind but once I implemented everything I mentioned above things got easier

Mine did this! Look up Purple crying-I could set my watch by it! I just had to walk around talking to my LO. It does eventually stop happening but it is hard going at the time.
