Bath with baby

Hello - first time mum, first time poster.

I'm thinking about bringing my 4 month old into my bath with me. I've read it's good for skin to skin, can help build his confidence before he starts baby swim lessons... and he's massive and about to outgrow his baby bath.

My brother in law and his partner do this with their 8 month old but have told me they keep their underwear/swimwear on.

What do you think? It seems a bit much to me - and like it would need me or DH to bathe twice whenever we go in with DS. But at the same time, DS is an absolute fiend for drinking bath water - he's frantically licking bubbles off his hands from the minute we put him in like it's a sherbert dip dab. Trying to stop him is futile and loud. So maybe it would be more hygienic to keep our pants on? It's all looking like the kitchen sink would be easier...

Grateful for your experiences/methods here! X

Oh and always naked yeah! Never occurred to us to wear anything.

Your baby came out your vagina four months ago and you think you need to wear underwear to be in the same bath? You're overthinking it, OP. Just get in the bath with him and enjoy a cuddle.

You don’t need to wear underwear, that is quite cracked.

I think my DS has had more baths with DH than on his own! They both have a bath every night (I'm a morning shower kind of person) and it'd be a total waste of water to run 2 separate baths

He's nearly 6 now so I imagine he'll want to stop fairly soon but it's not something that's ever crossed my mind as anything other than the most practical option

I think you're overthinking it tbh, it's a perfectly normal thing to do

I bathed with my baby until she was about 5 months old and then she got squirmy and kept trying to get out of my arms lol, i also have a bubble eater! She goes crazy for them, had a few instances where she has accidentally snorted a few n ended up with coughing fit bless her, i think all my babies have loved eating bubbles thinking about it 🤔 lol she is now 7 months and sits in the big bath by herself with couple inches of water in the bottom xx

Thank you so much ladies, I am reassured and definitely going to give it a go. I did think the underwear was overkill! Just need to find a suitable blobby spoon now... Thank you ❤️

DH and I did this with both DD's. I thought it was easier and less fuss than a baby bath (remained unused).
I think it would be much more difficult if only one of you though.

The idea of swimwear is ridiculous imo

RedRobyn2021 · 01/09/2024 16:59

They think you should wear swim wear in the bath with your own baby!?

Do they realise you grew this baby inside your body and possibly gave birth to them through your vagina?

This is honestly the most insane thing I've read today

RedRobyn2021 · 01/09/2024 17:00

I never bathed with my daughter as a baby but i have since she was about 2 (she is 3 now) I suppose they would think that was terribly shocking 🤣
