Toddler has a bug and I’m too scared to sleep

My 14 month old has what I think a bug ( vomiting and won’t stop heeving … but makes awful choking noises when doing so !!) also runny tummy . It’s been coming on in waves every 10-15 mins ( he’s happy normal self between the episodes) only he’s fallen asleep in my bed now so he’s safe ( everything in his room is covered in sick and I won’t be able to sleep anyway knowing he may go sick any moment ) but how does anyone get any sleep ????im not phased about being covered in sick but more I’m so so scared he chokes in his sleep !?? It’s terrifying when he starts gagging like he can’t catch his breath, is this even possible ?? I just need reassurance he will be okay as I have terrible anxiety over his safety. Im shattered so I need sleep but can’t see how 😭😭😭

It's really fun when you get it as well as your child 😕. Fingers crossed you don't catch it! If he's OK between episodes and isn't running a high temperature I'd assume he'll be fine. Just try to encourage him to drink a little water frequently so that he won't get dehydrated.

Put towels under him so if he's sick it'll be absorbed and try to relax. Sleep may not be possible, but probably it'll ease off and you'll drift off to sleep and both wake up tomorrow feeling OK.

Googling says sleeping on the back is still the safest position and that choking on vomit is very unlikely. SIDS is obviously still a concern at 14 months and it seems that trumps the sickness in terms of staying safe.

I hope you manage to get a little sleep and your baby recovers quickly.

NHS page might help you feel calmer/ in control.

Ah, this is awful for him and you. If he’s in the bed with you, you’ll wake up if he starts to retch or gag, won’t you? I can’t imagine you’d sleep through it

He’s 14 months, not 14 weeks. Most 14 month olds will decide what position they want to sleep in.

I would just sleep in the same room as him so you will hear him if he is about to vomit. Cover your bed with towels if you can. Have a bucket or large bowl handy to catch the sick.
