Hi guys - desperately need your help!

Over the summer holidays the children have spent most of their days outside exploring the garden and playing with water trays.
Now a couple of weeks into summer the kids were attacked by not one... not two... but 4-5 wasps! For no reason at all. They didn't have any ice lollies or anything bright or sweet smelling on them.
Since then the children have developed this massive fear of any flying creatures. From fruit flies, tiny flies to the green flies, these two will scream at the top of their lungs, cry and run! Because of this they have spent the last two weeks of the summer holidays in the house because they completely refuse to go for a walk, play in the garden, or go to the park !!! Things they used to love to do.
I am loosing my mind with this and I know it's a fear that has happened, for the right reason as we all know wasps are arseholes, but my god!!!!

Is this a phase? Will this pass?

When you say 'attacked' - were they stung by the wasps? As how to respond to that, where wasps did actually sting and cause pain, would be different to if wasps just buzzed around near them and they were frightened but not injured.

And how old are the children, are we talking toddlers, preschool?

So the wasp literally sat on my (2 year old) daughters face and was arching ready to sting but I swatted it away in good time before it did as she ran towards me when they were buzzing around her!

With my son (4 year old) they were buzzing around him and not leaving him alone. Poor boy stood still when I told him to, but then they just kept banging into his face and that was it. He began running.

They were never scared prior to this and since this they've just been terrified of everything!
