Toenail battle

DS (16 months) will just about tolerate having his fingernails cut, if there is something interesting on Cbeebies. However, we're fighting a losing battle over his toenails and I need some serious help now!

They are becoming really long, cut into his toes and finally grow over the top, rip and become jagged. We've tried cutting them in his sleep, after a bath, while he is having a snack, singing, distracting him, even wrestling him. His feet are really ticklish and he's really strong.

I can't hold his foot still long enough to see the nail, let alone get a pair of scissors anywhere near it - please help me!

I find clippers much easier than scissors! Also - one toe nail at a time and at a time of day when he is more quiet - first thing in the morning after milk (or whatever). I have a few pairs in key places e.g. on buggy, next to sofa, next to change mat etc and then if there seems to be an opportune time, off comes one shoe and sock and one nail gets done. Big claps and kisses and straight on to a toy or whatever.
Is that any help whatsoever??

Thanks so much, Dh has tried doing one nail with clippers during teeth brushing over the last couple of nights and reports it a success!

DS will have his finger nails cut but still hates havinh his toe nails cut and he's five now. I do them when he's asleep but he's very ticklish so can take a couple of attempts.

A friend does it at night too with a pair of old socks on that she has snipped the ends off, supposed to help stop the tickilish feeling.

let them see you do yours first, so they know what to expect and don't push it. it's hard
