My DD didn't start doing this until I started introducing a bottle, I think she got impatient as my milk wasn't there as quickly as the bottled milk. She was 9 months old at the time and I had just started back to work. Nothing I did helped so stopped BF after she drew blood. Sorry I cant give any helpful suggestions

We were at 11 months and I was planning to stop at a year so brought it forward when the biting started.

No helpful tips, sorry but potentially an option depending on your timeline

Yes, it's horrible and hurts so much! My LO did this from about the same age on and off. He got better again around 18 months when he started to get a little more understanding.

For me, the things that helped were:

Giving him a frozen flannel to chew on before breastfeeding
Calpol half an hour before feeding if teething was really bad
Keeping my finger close and watching carefully for signs a bite was coming! (I got better at spotting them)
Wearing a 'teething necklace' thing to distract him

Good luck

Oh I do not miss this phase!

I found it only lasted a few days with each tooth cutting but of course when you're still feeding often a few days feels like forever!

Teething gels about 20 before feeds, watch them closely and you'll get a sense for when they're about to bite and can unlatch.

As hard as it is not to- do not give a big pain reaction, baby doesn't know they're hurting you but will learn they get a big 'funny' unusual reaction from you when they bite and as they're curious little beings will want to see that more.

Also unlatch and stop the feed every time. Put them down, say we do not bite/no biting etc, and then let them feed again. Babies are so smart, even from a very young age it won't take them long to learn biting = no milk

When she actually bit through it and drew blood, that's when I called it a day. None of the others did it.

Thanks for the replies. Will take all of the advice on board! Hoping it's only temporary but I will consider giving up soon if it continues. My nipples are too sensitive to withstand the pain 😭.
