Hi, so as the title says everytime i put her into her cot at the moment she cries, this is a new thing, i finally managed to put her into her cot last night at half 10 after 3+ hours of trying.
she is breast fed so falls asleep on the breast, and up until recently she has her feed, comes off and i pop her in her cot, she stirs slightly rolls over and goes to sleep, now she stirs and instantly starts crying and won’t stop until i pick her up again, she doesn’t need breast to fall asleep as i pick her up and she will fall asleep on my shoulder has fallen asleep in her high chair and even on the living room floor lol she is teething but i give her a bit of calpol and teething gel in the evening before her bath so shes not in pain, shes not clingy baby, will quite happily crawl around playing with her toys, isn’t constantly wanting cuddles etc, it might be that we recently lowered her cot, but we can’t put it back as she pulls herself up and could fall over the rail hence why we lowered it, but im not sure if that would make a difference 🤷🏻‍♀️ theres not been any changes to her bedtime routine so im baffled lol any ideas? xx

They learn how to wake up. Try a baby sleeping bag so they don't get cold when put down. Can be put down when awake, not asleep. Just sit with them so they get used to the idea.

It’s normal that they become more aware as they get older unfortunately. I bet you’d notice if you fell asleep warmly cuddled up with DH on the sofa and then someone lifted you up and tried to plonk you into a bare bed! Very often babies just the reach point where they won’t accept the transfer anymore and need to fall asleep where they are going to stay asleep. Maybe it’s time to look at the feed to sleep habit, put her down awake then sit with her (or not if you’d rather prescribe to stricter sleep training, it’s up to you). Sorry I know not the answer you probably want but it is really normal.

Start by putting her into the cot whilst she is awake - she’ll learn to settle herself if you do some light sleep training

Hey thanks for the advice everyone, so last night went perfectly, feed, put her in her cot and slept from 8 till 11:30, 12-2:30 and 3- 5, 5-7:30 perfect 👌🏻 (yes she wakes quite a bit but i don’t mind that, as she goes back in her cot no issues in the night), tonight… ive only just managed to put her in her cot and her not cry 🤷🏻‍♀️ done nothing different than last night, no idea what is going on lol xx

She isn't a nesting animal like a bird. She's a carry mammal like a kangaroo. She wants to be close to you. She's a normal baby don't worry. You've been sold a lie and had your expectations raised. Most babies do not want separation from their safety and ecosystem.

Why babies hate cots and cribs – and what to do instead

Of all the ‘problems’ I am asked for help with the most it is the following: “how do I get my baby to sleep in his cot?” “I want my baby to sleep in her crib, but she …

No way was I using anything other than a proper cot. DT’s were put down at 7.30 every evening. By eight weeks they reliably slept through the night and we reconfirmed with gentle sleep training at five months in time for me going back to work. Babies thrive on routine.
