Tog sleepsuits

Hi guys

My baby is due early November. When my last was a newborn, she slept in a basic sleepsuit with a cellular blanket until she was big enough for sleeping bags. From the beginning she managed to kick the cellular blanket off regularly!

I’ve recently been made aware that tog sleepsuits are a thing. Example on the link below. Just wondering if anybody has used these and how you found them? Do you think a 2.5 tog sleepsuit with a vest bodysuit underneath would be ok for baby if my house is around 20 degrees?

Thanks in advance :-) xx

It says in the description a room temp of 16-20

I think a vest body suit will be fine

They will wake if cold and you can test their temperature by there chest and back

While they’re little I like to layer.
so I have a 1 tog love to dream sleep suit, then I add 1 or 2 blanket’s depending on the temperature. the blankets are secured under the mattress. I use cellular and crochet wool blankets. In your situation, I would have a short sleeve vest, a Babygrow, 1 tog love to dream and 2 blankets.

After 5/6 months I’ll then have the appropriate tog and no blankets.

I personally found the guidance Infograph’s to be consistently 1 layer to little.

The point of the tog suits are so no blankets are needed

Respectfully but please don't follow @Readytoevolve advice on blankets as well as tog sleeping bags/suits. That sounds too many layers for a newborn and they can easily overheat which increases SIDs. My baby was born in January and used to sleep in a vest, normal babygrow then a sleeping bag (most the cosy 2.5 tog one I've linked below but sometimes the 1 tog if it's warmer). Remember your likely to have your heating on too.

Babies will let you know if they are cold but will not if they are too warm as they become too sleepy/drowsy!

Personally I prefer to use sleeping bags as mine had some explosive nappies which may go through to the babygrow but not the sleeping bag.

You can buy sleeping bags from newborn. Like this one but I just didn't use the swaddle bit and had their arms out like a normal sleeping bag.

Completely agree with @Ohiwish12 😊 I personally went for sleeping bags like the Tommee Tippee ones suggested above and I adjusted the layers underneath when needed. We found quite early that DS seems to run quite warm and got on best with one layer less than what was suggested on all the charts etc, so he was often just in a babygrow and sleeping bag rather than a vest too.

We have Hive heating so have a thermostat that we can move around the house. I found it best having it in DSs room so it stayed a pretty consistent temperature in there over the winter.

I am a little bit neurotic when it comes to my fear of sids/accidental suffocation and so I don't use blankets anymore. Tog bags put my mind at rest. Gets hot in my room so I use a 0.5 tog bag at the moment. With either a vest or long sleeve grow underneath. In winter I will use a larger tog bag

I loved the merino sleeping bags. Expensive initial purchase, but you don't need different togs, and they are adjustable so work from birth until walking.

I like the Love to Dream swaddle sleeping bags, especially if your baby naturally sleeps with arms up. They come in a variety of thicknesses and sizes from newborn up and help reduce the startle reflex in newborns. The Tommee Tippee ones are another option if baby prefers arms in.
