Heanvens no! I do swear in front of my Dc's and then try to justify it as in "That really hurt" or " I'm a grown up!!!!" NEVER in front of other peoples DC's or my mother.

no

HonorMatopoeia · 16/04/2008 21:07

No, I very ocassionally do infront of my Dd's (in moments of pain mostly!) but I tend to try and repeat a more acceptable version after in the hope Dd1 will think that's what I said the first time round e.g. Oh Floppin Heck I never swear infront of other children and if a swear is required for emphasis in a conversation I tend to spell it out!

wornoutwaitress · 16/04/2008 21:09

btw i don't mean by accident when you've hurt yourself or something. just in normal conversation.

Erm - some of them, yes. the ones whose parents are very close friends and who I know swear in front of the dc themselves.

But not often, or as a matter of course, and NEVER actually at them.

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 16/04/2008 21:11

wouldn't fucking dream of it, no, you waaaaanker

oliviaelanasmum · 16/04/2008 21:11

I swear in front of my children and have on occasion sworn quietly in front of my bf's children but mainly i swear about them when they leave!

harpomarx · 16/04/2008 21:12

only if they've really fucked me off!

PinkTulips · 16/04/2008 21:12

not intentionally but it has happened

i have a serious problem with swearing, and unfortunately dp is no better. we're aware of the problem and are trying to change but we can't seem to get a handle on it.

the words come out of our mouths before we realise we're going to say them, at which point it's too late.

i've never said anything too bad infront of a strangers child but my poor cousin has had to tell me off manys a time luckily he learned to say 'fuck' at 2 thanks to his moms road rage so i didn't get the blame for that one at least

have gotton the occasional raised eyebrow at toddler group and realised i said something i shouldn't have... problem is i didn't even realise i said it til i got the look

Psychomum5 · 16/04/2008 21:14

I have sworn around them yes....normally tho when irate about something not related to the kiddies.

in fact, if the kiddies get to me, then 'stupid' is about the hardest word they hear!

I have been asked to stop a couple of times by a friend tho as I was ranting big time about an ex-friend who called my DS1 "a stupid fucking idiot and a stupid fucking prick"....and I got sooooooooooooooooooo wound up I was swearing myself.....and was asked to stop.

I really try hard now to be aware of others and the kiddies as altho mine have heard me swear when upset and no it is never aimed at them, other kiddies don;t and it is so unfair to them. I feel so ashamed still!

wornoutwaitress · 16/04/2008 21:17

i do it too sometimes without even realising what i've said until it's too late. it's ok around family and close friends cos most of them are the same - but sometimes i do worry about what's going to slip out at toddler group and the like. i've only been going to these things a month or so and so far i've managed to keep a lid on it!!

I try not to and in fact I think I control myself remarkably well considering how much I swear around my friends and DP. But in my part-time SAHM incarnation I do seem to know quite a few Lovely Mums who are Lovely and who never swear - and they raise their eyebrows even when the odd crap or bloody (which I consider pretty f*cking mild!) slip out in front of their DCs.

Poor DS however is bombarded with swearwords - I really try not to do it but we have several childless friends who are dreadful. They always swear to the max and then go "Oooops! Sorry DS!" which just draws attention to it. So I am constantly saying "Yes, bucket DS, did you hear Dave talking about a bucket, isn't that funny" and "Did you say hunt Kate, are you going on an Easter egg hunt, what fun!"

Spidermama · 16/04/2008 21:24

I did really well for years. Ds1, my second born, learned a swear word at his cousin's house in Glasgow.

He said to me, 'Mum, I know a bad word' and I said, 'what?' and he said, 'Fuck'. I acted cool and pretended not to know it. I said, 'How do you know it's bad' and he said, 'Because Spidercuz said it and his Dad told him off and said it was a bad word'.

Now that seems like such a rosy, innocent day gone by. It was only about two years ago. He was 6 and he taught it to his 7 year old sister.

Now the word does crop up from time to time in our house but I would never let it slip in front of guests or their children.

Spidermama · 16/04/2008 21:24

Some people think 'fart' and 'bum' are rude fgs. It's a fucking minefield.

Lizzylou · 16/04/2008 21:26

NOt yet, no. Not in front of the DS's (4 and 2), but by Gawd, I am getting closer by the buggering bastard day.

3andnomore · 16/04/2008 21:28

oh, you have all made my day....not so much about swearing infront of other Kids...but am glad I am not the only one who swears infront of her own Kids....phew....

madmuggle · 16/04/2008 21:36

I try not to, but sometimes it's unavoidable. It's a part of my vocabulary, and as we all know, when under stress we can glide into auto-pilot...

Poppychick · 16/04/2008 21:38

I agree - it has happened, not really bad swear words I don't say those but occasionally it slips out.

SlartyBartFast · 16/04/2008 21:38

i live in fear, say of helping out at school and swearing

SlartyBartFast · 16/04/2008 21:39
