double pram, sling & bike or buggy board?!

hello, can anyone give me some recommendations or advice on what i can do in this situation? my toddler starts nursery next week & he likes to walk but gets tired/wants to be carried OR he likes to be naughty and run away etc etc

i have a 5 month old who is of course happy to be in his pram. the nursery is a 15-20 minute walk from my house and i will have to do this trip on my own every other week as partner will be away working & i dont drive.

my toddler isn't too keen on a pram and sometimes will stand on his brothers foot rest on the pram but doesn't last long. i am very anxious and have been overthinking this for a long time and not sure what to do. the baby in a sling and my toddler in his graco bike thing will hurt my back (i have got a really bad back)

please let me know what your experiences are!

What do you mean by ‘toddler’? I’d have a different answer to an 18 month old and a 5 month old, vs a 3.5 year old and a 5 month old.

Definitely double pram for the nursery journey. He will be tired at the end of the day.

Definitely double buggy. He might not like it, but it will be much easier and safer. It also gives you somewhere to dump bags etc.

I had a buggy board for my 2yo and a back up sling if I needed to carry the baby and put the 2yo in. My 2yo liked to be up and about and hop on and off the board.

We had the same gap and a double buggy was invaluable. The toddler can always hop in and out if that's working.

He'll be exhausted after nursery, those walks could be utter hell!

Double buggy. At the very least it'll see you through to nicer weather next May when your toddler might be more keen on walking sensibly.
The extra space is great for carrying clutter and shopping. I miss the double buggy days.

We had a double buggy for the nursery run at that age. Often I'd go back home and switch back to a single for being out with just the baby, as it was a pain get on to public transport or into tiny shops with the double.

Reins to stop him running off.

Buggy boards are awful.

What's wrong with buggy boards? I think they're really useful, but more for a 3+ year old who is a bit more amenable - 2.5 year olds are feral and won't reliably stay on one.

I know some people love them, but god I hated ours. For starters, it needs the agreement of the toddler which is fleeting - mine once tried to get off while the buggy was moving as we crossed the road. And it make the buggy a complete pain to push (I'm short which might have something to do with that).

SnapdragonToadflax · 21/08/2024 12:23

Oh agreed - you can't walk normally with one. And it does need a reasonably compliant child, which is why I think a 2.5 year old needs a buggy.

My toddler was 2 years 5 months when baby was born, and we went with buggy board rather than double pram.

I'm SO glad we didn't spend a fortune on another pram - toddler uses the buggy board if tired, but walks more and more. 6 months on and I hardly take the buggy board out now.

I think it does depend on toddler - I was worried mine wouldn't take to it too, and at the beginning was a bit on / off, but we persevered.

Could you borrow one / get one second hand to try?

My 26mo loves perching (sitting) on the footplate of her pushchair, so hoping she would like a buggy board seat if we have another one!

Bedtime91 · 22/08/2024 07:49

I absolutely love our buggy board but I have a sensible toddler who isn't a runner!

However on occasion she has hopped off without me noticing so I wouldn't risk it if you do have a runner. Get the double buggy
