Tummy sleeping

My little boy is 6 and a half months old and for the first time last night twice I found him asleep on his front, I turned him over straight away as I know they say they shouldn't do it till they are a year old, has anyone else experienced this and what did you do? As now I know he is going to want to keep doing it.

I think you've picked up the wrong advice. If he's rolling then he's fine so that depends on the child. At 6 and a half months most children are fine sleeping on their front. Can't imagine there are many babies who stay on their backs until the age of one.

As PP said, as long as you put baby to sleep on their back, if they roll on to their front on their own you can leave them. My DD started doing it around 6 months too and it’s how she always sleeps now.

Not sure what you’ve read and where but it’s wrong. You continue to put them down on their back at the start of night then whatever position they get themselves into is fine.

If they are able to roll back then it's fine to leave them. This is the advice from the lullaby trust:

If your baby rolls onto their tummy

Once your baby can move themselves from their back to their front and back again by themselves, they will be able to find their own sleeping position.

The first few times they roll onto their tummy, you might like to gently turn them back, but do not feel you have to get up all night to check. Give them some time to play on their tummy while they are awake to help their development, but make sure you supervise them while they are on their front.

Thank you all for replying, there are so many different and conflicting articles when I googled it which is why I wanted to ask other parents as they would know more than anything I could Google at 4am this morning, he is fine rolling onto his tummy he just can't quite roll back yet so I didn't want him getting stuck on his front if it wasn't a good thing him being on his tummy.

Read trusted information like NHS, not any old article online. Then use your own judgement. I was happy with my son sleeping on his front from 4 months as he could push himself up and turn his head easily from side to side. He slept better. Some would rather wait until they can fully roll. My son started fully rolling only a few weeks later.

As he can turn from his front to his back yet you might want to gently turn him over when you notice till he can do it himself but I wouldn't disturb your sleep to check.
