C- Section Scar not healing 😖

I'm 11 weeks postpartum and my scar has still not healed. I have had two c-sections in two years, one emergency and one planned. The emergency was first and I healed pretty well. But this time round it's been a struggle. I've been back and forth with the doctors, courses of antibiotics, inadine patches and nothing seems to be working. The only thing I can think of is I am A LOT heavier this time so my over hang is big, so I think it's not getting enough air and I had a summer baby so I'm getting a lot hotter and sweaty. I clean it daily with warm boiled water but I just can't seem to get it too clear up. I spoke to the doctors again as there was a smell and they just advised airing it out that it's not infected... but i genuinely don't know how? I have two under two so I'm quite busy so I can't just stand infront of the fan lifting my over hang🤣🤣🤣

does anyone have anyone have any advice/tips/suggestions like ANYTHING? Even on how to loose weight it's getting me down and making me feel gross

Oh love, I hear you on being heavier the second time round!

Have they checked the wound for thrush? I got it second time round. The wound was sore and, TMI, a bit weepy and smelly. It was thrush. I got cream from the doc, made sure I used the shower head very lightly from a distance and used the hair dryer every morning to dry it. I used water wipes twice a day to clean and then dried again. it was gone in a week and the wound healed well.

Hope you find something that helps.

I’m 5 weeks post c section, also struggling with an overhang so finding it tricky to keep it dry in such sweaty weather - especially as i’m still wearing my big knickers! I thought there was a slight smell from mine and a bit of a red rash next to it, I got the midwife to look at it, she was certain it wasn't infected but just where it had got hot and sort of chafed. I was originally letting soap trickle down but felt that wasn’t cleaning it enough, so have been using Sanex 0% on it in the shower for a few weeks and using a clean muslin washcloth to gently pat dry the scar area properly afterwards instead of the towel, to avoid risking any germs. Lying down and airing it for 5 mins after a shower too if i get the chance. I hope it heals for you really soon!

@Hippomumma oh gosh - that didn't even cross my mind that it could possibly be that! They haven't mentioned that to me, so I may contact my doctors and ask to see if it could possibly be that!!

i will give that routine a go and see if I get any improvement! Ahhhh fingers crossed!

Thank you for providing that insight and advice! Xxx

@blushroses6 thank you for your comment - this is highly appreciated and it's making me feel a lot better that I'm not the only one who is having a longer healing process🥹

mine has red around it too!! I'll buy that sanex 0% and give that a go and hope it helps!!

Thank you so much xxx

Have they swabbed it?

Doctors didn't think mine was infected, even though it had a hole in the stitches and was sore - turns out it was and needed multiple courses of multiple antibiotics.

WellExactly2 · 19/08/2024 22:38

Also wouldn't recommend a hair dryer - they can be dusty and you don't want to fire all that
into a wound.

Crispynoodle · 19/08/2024 22:48

Eat a lot of good quality protein 3 times a day. Buy dressing packs from Amazon and clean daily with saline. Buy dressings and change daily. Get air to it if you ever have any time to sit down. Go back to docs and get it swabbed if ooze and proper antibiotics

Boymamaoftwo · 20/08/2024 04:26

@WellExactly2 Ive had it swabbed and that's when I got the antiobiotics tablets and the cream antibiotics too. And omg! That's true about the hair dryer 😣 I didn't think of that - thank you!!

@Crispynoodle that didn't cross my mind either about food but it makes A LOT of sense!! Thank you so much! I'll give it a go with the dressings too 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

It sounds like the infection hasn't cleared - I would be asking for them to swab it again or give more antibiotics, I had to have a couple of goes before mine cleared up. It wasn't even very oozy just not closing up.

Try not to put much on it, no creams etc - keep it clean and pat dry with a clean muslin, try to have some time airing it out - lie on your bed. I know it's hard with a baby to look after. Mine finally healed around 4 months pp.

sectionscarhelp · 20/08/2024 05:15

Having scar issues myself as you can tell by my username !!
I'm 6 months pp now but my scar was like this for ages ! Also my second section.
It absolutely stunk 🤢 Ask for some antibiotic cream I think it's called fusidic acid. And thrush cream is a good shout ! You can buy the swabs in the chemist

Boymamaoftwo · 20/08/2024 07:39

@WellExactly2 I think you're right, I might call them today, there's no harm in getting it swabbed again and go from there!

I avoid putting anything near that area, even when I moisturise, I stop half way down my belly so nothing goes near it.
thank you! Xx

@sectionscarhelp oh I'm sorry it's gone on for so long for you😣 when I previously got swabbed I got that cream and tablet anitbiotics and it seemed to clear it up for a little bit but now I'm in the same situation still, so frustrating!

but I agree about the thrush! I might give that a go and get swabbed x
