Been potty trainign for about a week, she can hold her wee till gets on potty or toilet(even when we are out) ,and is even dry at night now.

but doesnt want to poo on potty or toilet and although she has managed two poos on potty in that time she has pooed in her knickers 4 times!

i fear she is holding it in and then has no control when it finally comes out, either that or she is just so used to pooing standing up???

please any ideas welcome....

ERIC is an organisation with some good advice for childhood continence probs. They've got a website with free leaflets.

I have been training my 3.5 yr old son for nearly 10 months now. Absolute nightmare!!! thought he'd got it since christmas, had a diarrhoea virus 2 weeks ago and has somehow lost all ability to get to potty in time for a poo. My ds has had too many sticker charts and prizes to count. Even a suprise spiderman choc easter egg this week hasn't worked. He soils himself at nursery/ home/ in the park- aaarrgghh. It was so bad today that I had to put him in the shower- twice!

Am also at a loss what to do so shall be keeping a close eye on this thread for any additional info.

Don't worry, when I recently toilet trained my son he was dry within about a week, but kept on pooing in his pants for at least another two months. He eventually got the hang of using the toilet for poos. Very common as several of my friends have mentioned it so you are not alone!

Not sure if I was just 'lucky' with dd1 or if it was just a coinsidence but early in training I allowed her to spend the morning naked and she did just one poo with no knickers on every poo after than was in the potty or toilet as she absolutely freaked at the poo going down her leg!!

ds1 doesn;t seem very worried about wallowing in his own filth. Does seem embrarrassed though which might be a breakthrough. He often tries to creep upstairs to get changed himself. Of course then you get pooey bum prints on the duvet- not nice!

don't want to go down "uurrgghh that's disgusting" route with him cos it'll cause ISSUES later on.

anyway, trying the "spiderman chocolate" bribe again today, after 2 very pooey days (they appear quite loose and he says he doesn;t realise they're coming out????????) strange!

as for night time, hadn't tackled it yet mainly cos ds2 has only just started sleeping through and I'm back at work. Couldn't cope with sleepless nights from 2 children and then having to go to work. Anyway ds2 is good as gold now so will attempt to solve ds1 night time soon. we'll see.

Toddler diarrhea m2m? There's been a few threads about it recently - might be worth you checking it out. DS certainly has it every now and again, which makes me feel apprehensive about potty training, too!

mum2max · 18/04/2008 09:01

he had what nursery thought was the squits last week. Ds2 threw huge temp so they obviously wouldn't let either of them in for a few days. I don't know whther he's just got out of habit of pooing in potty since, as of course i didn't tell him off with diarrhoea in his pants poor thing.

It's so frustrating- just when you think you've cracked it something like illness happens and a huge backwards step occurs .
