3 month old scratched his cheek - will it scar?

Yesterday morning LO scratched his cheek with his nail, I’ve attached a photo of it.

How long will it take to heal and will it scar? It was just before I was due to cut his finger nails so it’s unfortunate timing and feel terrible!

OP you posted pretty much the same thing a few weeks ago, tiny scratch due to an untrimmed nail. Hopefully that one healed quickly and should give you an idea of what to expect with other scratches

BeerForMyHorses · 18/08/2024 17:38

That's an incredibly tiny scratch. No- it won't scar

Moveoverdarlin · 18/08/2024 17:38

No it won’t scar and it’ll be gone by this time next week. Babies do this all the time, don’t feel terrible. He’ll do it again no doubt.

I can barely see the thing tbh doubt it’ll scar.

My son had a VERY deep and long scratch from a catheter that was in his hand whilst at NICU. 2 years later and he still has the scar on his cheek. As soon as he had the scratch, you could tell it’d be there for a while.

You’d be able to tell whether the scratch would scar or not from the offset

Thanks, that was a different area (by eye) so thought skin would be different due to it being on cheek

You've posted quite a lot of over anxious posts OP are you doing ok? It sounds like you could do with talking to someone, you sound very anxious.

Thanks! Really hoping so. Should I apply anything to it or just let it heal?

OP, this keeps repeatedly happening. When he can be you need to put him in scratch mittens to stop this happening.

OP there's nothing really there to heal!
There are going to be many, many bumps, bruises, cuts, proper scratches, scrapes and injuries over the next years!
Is there any reason why such small things worry you so much?

Ayeyourebeingadick · 18/08/2024 18:13

I mean this kindly, there is absolutely nothing there. I expected a deep gash.

You need to get proper help for your anxiety or your motherhood & baby will suffer.

Don’t be unkind. If she needs help with anxiety it’s not for strangers on MN to say, if you can’t answer the question just scroll past the thread. Hate people advance searching others as well, who cares what she’s posted before it’s not relevant to this is it?

I don’t think it will scar OP don’t worry, just looks like a tiny little mark that will be gone in a few days time. Bless him. Some sleepsuits have the fold over scratch mitts, might be better than putting separate mittens on him which tend to just fall off.

Thank you and I’ll try to not overthink everything next time

I scared my daughter with my pregnancy nails when she was a few days old. It much deeper than this picture and whilst there is a scar that I can see on her arm most people wouldn't notice. She has had other cuts and scratches and none of them have scarred. So much mum guilt but she's ok.

HazelEagle · 21/08/2024 18:19

Just to update - it’s still there after 4ish days and you can see the line of the scratch but unsure whether that’s normal at this stage or not. Suppose I need to give more time but thanks all

Op, you need to get some help for your anxiety. I mean it kindly.

It won't scar, it's to light on the skin. Scratches do take time to heal it's normal for babies to have scratches.
It's going to get more & more as they get older & bump into things so best to get some help for yourself now. X

HazelEagle · 21/08/2024 18:35

Apologies it’s first LO so it’s all new to me! It’s a raised line at the moment, when rub finger over it, so don’t know if that’s normal and I do appreciate your advice, I will consider it.

OP posts:
Grmumpy · 21/08/2024 18:38

Totally fine. When he starts walking he will bump into things and get knocks and bruises. Babies are usually very resilient.

Moveoverdarlin · 21/08/2024 18:40

It is COMPLETELY normal. It’ll heal, then he’ll do it again. Then maybe again. Don’t feel terrible.

HazelEagle · 21/08/2024 18:43

Thanks! First LO so massively over thinking everything but didn’t know if it would scar as its still visible after a few days and can see the line of it still etc
