Single bed recommendations for 3YO

I’m looking for recommendations for single beds for a 3.5YO, either specific items or general types.

DD1 is currently in cot bed in “bed mode” and is doing well but occasionally falls out. It’s low to the ground so she just rolls off without waking.

We will soon need the cot bed in “cot mode” for DD2. DD1 is excited about the idea of a big bed.

Standard single beds just look so high up! Any suggestions for a low bed, or a bed guard? Do they just learn not to fall? Ideally we’d find something she can use until she’s a tween/teen.

Previous mn threads on beds for this age usually recommend a double bed, which there isn’t room for, or an extendable bed, but I’d rather go straight to a standard single.

TIA!

Maybe look at a bed with a slatted base (IKEA is our go to) instead of a box spring or divan or whatever they're called.

There are bed frames where you can lower the height of the slatted base on the frame - pop a relatively flat base on coupled with a mattress that's not too thick and that would give you a low-ish bed. That's what we're about to do with our 2 year old.

I read somewhere that the mattress for a little one doesn't need to be especially great or thick (or zoned 😂) since they weigh so little and thus don't need the support that we do.

Both of mine had a standard single at usual bed height from Ikea. We got it for DD when she was 3, then we got her a double and it went to DS at only 15 months as he was a champion climber and escaped the cot! We added an extra long bed guard from Argos but got rid at 3 and a half as we reckoned they wouldn’t fall out at that age (and they didn’t).

Just have a mattress for now and add a base/frame later. Or use a futon base with a normal mattress (to keep mattress off the floor for air circulation).

My DC is the same. They have been in a single bed for two years and still falls out. I kept the mattress from the cot bed and placed this on the floor as a landing mat. It rarely occurs anymore but I'm always glad that the mattress if there when I do. I search everywhere for a cheap ish low bed but couldn't find one so ended up with one from John Lewis. I wouldn't recommend a divan bed as they are higher than other beds.

Bed guard on a single bed?

We just used a normal single from IKEA (not the divan type) and put a bed guard on it for maybe the first 6 months. I then took the guard off and stuck a couple of cushions on the floor incase they rolled out. I think that only ever happened a couple of times though.
