15 month old running off, still falling over from time to time... Is the answer those backpacks with straps?! What else is there when he refuses to be in the pram...

With mine it's hold my hand or go in the buggy as soon as he starts running off. No other option.

Yes you could use one of those backpacks. I would give two safe options you are happy with E. G. Backpack on or in the pram? I was quite happy to wrestle mine into his pram and ignore the tantrum if he refused the backpack so he quickly learnt to walk nicely next to me.

Depends where he is running off. We spend most of our time in parks or other large open spaces and I'm fine with her running off in those areas, she's within eyesight and I can keep pace with her. She falls over, that's part of the learning process. On the way there and back, on the street, she stays in the buggy, but she is tired after a good run around anyway.

Thanks all. I like the idea of the clear options - so far baby doesn't hold hands properly!

It's not so much holding hands as me holding his hand/wrist tightly. 😉

The back packs are great. Give him the two options. Do not waver. If you give him a consequence then stick to it! Even if it means turning around after 5 minutes and going home. Back pack lets them feel independent but saves your sanity if they are a bolter. Their safety is the most important thing here, although they obviously won't see it that way!

Absolutely give two options and don't back down just quietly reiterate the two options. So for us it was hold hand or pushchair. I've had to wrestle a tantrum king toddler into a pushchair more than once but at 15 months he doesn't know that if he runs off he could run in front of a car and die.
