How long did you use your pram/pushchair for?

DD is 18 months old and I’ve been considering replacing her travel system/pram with a more lightweight pushchair. The pram we have at the minute has done us really well but it is so heavy and bulky and I feel we really don’t need such a big one anymore.

I have seen a lightweight stroller from mamas and papas that I think would be better but I’m a bit reluctant to buy a stroller if we won’t get much use out of it. DD is a confident walker and I imagine the need for a stroller will decrease over the next year or so?

At what age did your little one stop needing a pram/pushchair? Is it worth investing in or should I stick with what we have for now?

We only ever had a small pushchair (lie flat from birth) and DC1 was out of it completely by 2.5. He occasionally wants to be carried (we do a lot of walking) but I’d rather take a carrier suitable for his weight and wear him like a backpack (Ergobaby 360). That said he’s almost at the weight limit now at just turned 3 (90-something centile). I have a younger one so if you are considering one you may use it for a second child. As PP have said everyone is different.

Just wanted to add that my second was born when my eldest was 23 months. I didn’t buy a double pushchair as seemed a waste of money.

Ds was past 4yo before we gave ours up. He still enjoyed an afternoon nap sometimes. We also lived in the ME, and in those temperatures, I had no want for a 10 minute walk to take 30 mins with a child.

My buggy is nearly 5 years old.

Nowadays it's supposed to be used for my two and a half year old, but since he's happier on his scooter my nearly 5 year old takes full advantage and sits in it whenever she can. I'm hoping embarrassment will trump her laziness eventually, but I doubt it. I still bring it in case of 2 year old stubbornness or tantrums.

I'm hoping to be done with it by summer next year when DS is 3 and a quarter, but we'll see.
