Would this be too hot for summer use do you think?

I think so, DS2 was born in May and we didnt use one.
I put a sheepskin and folded blankets in the baby section to make it "nest-like" and this seemed to help, he slept ok in there.
That said, the cocoon does make the baby section seem more stable, it wobbles around a bit otherwise, so you could the cocoon and just leave it open?
I gather most babies outgrow them quite quickly so prob worth lookign on here or ebay for one?

moodlumthehoodlum · 15/04/2008 21:51

I did use it for ds, he was a july baby, but I would almost put him in with just a babygrow and not much else on. I think he liked it though.

Jewelsandgems · 16/04/2008 07:12

I am still using mine now the weather is warmer, but I just put a lighter blanket inside. It is nice and sturdy in there especially if you are off-roading and also handy for lifting the baby out of the buggy, alseep, and popping it down where ever you need to, without waking him/her I.E great for restaurants, holidays, shopping as he/she will just stay alseep - yay!

I love mine but DDs feet are right at the bottom and she is 13 weeks old (and she is a teeny baby so maybe sooner for others!)

Like pannacotta suggested ebay would be good. Otherwise buy one new (they are not expensive) and then sell it on ebay. That way you get the new stuff, and can sell it on for a decent price.

Thank you for your replies. It will be a July baby. Does it double up as a moses basket and could be used at night too potentially?

Our house does get really warm in the summer so i'm concerned that baby might be too warm even if left open - what do you think? Would it be better just on a sheepskin (which we already have) both in the house and in the buggy?

It does double up as a moses basket at night and my DD2 slept in hers for the first few weeks, in our room. It was deepest winter though!

moodlumthehoodlum · 16/04/2008 16:56

Personally, I wouldn't use it as a Moses basket - its too hot for July, they are pretty padded and obviously its better to have the baby a little bit chilly in a moses basket than too hot in the cocoon.

pinkyminky · 16/04/2008 17:08

They are a good buy, IMO, but my dd was an october baby and very warm, so she didn't need much bedding in it, so july might be too much. It's great as a carrycot for casual sleepiing but I don't know if it would do the same job as a carrycot/moses basket etc. full time

3madboys · 16/04/2008 17:19

i have one virtually unused if you are interested, i bought it for ds4, but i ahve a bugaboo and he just goes in the carycot, it is sat up in my wardrobe.

its a charcoal grey one, in mint condition, i think it may still have the tags attached.

it is very cosy and i used it a bit the first few weeks, but now he prefers to be in his car seat or bouncy chair, or else attached to me in the sling.

honey2theb · 16/04/2008 22:39

ive got a re done im about to put on ebay? only used it about 4 times!

moondog · 16/04/2008 22:40

I used one for my July baby but definitely not necessary.

ButterflyMcQueen · 16/04/2008 22:43

we have heard they add stability and you can fold the flap under it on hot days

LynetteScavo · 16/04/2008 22:44

I used one for my July baby.... you would need some sort of padidng, ie sheepskin, if you don't use one for a new born.

pinkyminky · 16/04/2008 23:38

Yes the top zips back. It's handy bit of kit really- opens out completely if you want to lie baby down for a bit of a kick/ or put a mat under for nappy change- saves needing extra blankets etc. for picnics/visiting- you just lift cocoon out and leave bulky pram somewhere out of the way. I loaned mine to a friend for her baby and I'll be using it again myself, so you can make them cost effective.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 17/04/2008 11:03

I'm going for the P&T Vibe so I don't THINK your for-sale cocoons will work?

Surely a cocoon is going to be similar heat wise to putting a sheepsking / blankets down to form a soft base? Also - without the cocoon, is it like putting baby on a shelf with no ledge at the head end? have visions of me tipping the buggy up to go up a steep step on to a bus or something and the baby sliding out towards me on to the floor!!

ButterflyMcQueen · 17/04/2008 11:27

ptiypasi did you know you can only get vibe in red -if you are in uk

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 17/04/2008 14:47

What????? Are you sure

OP posts:
pinkyminky · 17/04/2008 15:31

No, the baby position for the seat makes a kind of long carrycot shape with an end bit- the baby won't fall out! But I still rate the cocoon.

honey2theb · 17/04/2008 20:28

Without a cosytoes or cocoon, i find the p&t a bit hard?! dd's got the cosytoes but when the weather was hot the other day, i put blankets under her coz i thought it looked uncomfortable!
No baby wont fall out!

pinkyminky · 17/04/2008 21:01

The p&t sleeping bag is great for the back seat, it holds the baby really snug.

ButterflyMcQueen · 17/04/2008 21:08

a friend told me she went to buy the vibe and was told only red so gave up and went for sport
