I’m at a loss

(Not sure if this is the right category so sorry if it’s wrong)

My 3 year old daughter has been dry since October last year. She had a UTI in May which was then tested after her antibiotics course and came back clear. Since having the UTI, she’s been wetting throughout the day a lot, mostly like leaking but she hides it. We have never told her off for this, just explain she needs to tell us as wee goes smelly and she doesn’t want to get sore. She then started wetting during the night without waking up. We went back to the doctors where everything was all clear again. Today she’s had 7 accidents without telling anyone. Once she was in bed I sat and spoke to her about why she keeps weeing herself and why she doesn’t tell anyone. She said “because I will be put in the bin”. No one in our lives I feel would ever say that as she is very sensitive bless her. She said she can’t remember who said it. This has really upset me as I’m worried IF someone had said this, but then she’s also started fibbing a lot the last few months so I’m not 100% if someone has said this or if it’s just her being a toddler (like monsters under her bed etc..). I’ve been doing my research and I’ve seen a lot suggesting diabetes, so I will be on the phone to the drs first thing in the morning as I would like it ruled out because if that is the reason then we know why the wetting is happening. But has anyone experienced this or can suggest anything I can say or do for her?

We tell our DC they will be put in the bin quite a bit, it's probably just something she's heard.

I think if she was dry previously the UTI has let her think she can just pee herself. I'd be bribing her, I know that's not 'oh crap' method but she sounds like a clever girl. An offer of chocolate buttons if she stays dry all day and then a bigger prize if she does it for a week might work. 2 weeks of that and you tail off and don't mention it and it'll stick.

I was thinking maybe nursery but don’t want to be throwing that around as I don’t believe it was said in a nasty way to her.. I have said tonight if she goes dry all day tomorrow she can sleep in my bed with me when her dad goes to work so fingers crossed this works then I know she has control of it then can use food etc as ways! Thank you!

It's a bit of a joke thing that people say but she's obviously not found it funny at all bless her, clearly not been made to feel safe by whoever said it.

I would 100% go to the GP re the wetting as it's clearly not right and is distressing her.

This is exactly what happened to my daughter though we found out she has coeliacs disease and I think everything’s just been going wrong for her - I think inflammation and run down just meant she kept weeing - but she seems to be unaware when it happens. So odd

My youngest is being tested for coeliac disease currently! I may push and get her tested too!

Check for constipation. I know this may sound odd but young children who are constipated often put off going to the loo (because it hurts) and end up having wetting accidents. Good luck to you and your dd - you sound like you’re doing the right thing.

It’s a journey, hope she is ok!

I’ve had similar with my DS but this was because of issues with constipation. Worthwhile checking and getting some advice from your GP. Our GP advised us to look at ERIC, it’s a children’s bowel and bladder charity. Might be of some help to you. It’s really hard and hope it resolves itself soon
