my ds 10yrs is very hard to cater for has a very limited diet and am worried thast he will never change ?
the only veg that has ever passsed his lips is sweetcorn.wont even eat chips or any kind of potato product.wont eat pasta either he just lives on pizza and pretty much most chicken things.what annoys me the most is that he isnt willing to try first then decide if he doesnt like it.once made him eat a small slice of carrot and he promptly threw up in the bin .have been to a dietician when he was 2 but he couldnt help me

I don't think forcing him to eat anything would work - kids can be a bit odd about what they will and won't try ( I was convinced I couldn;t eat butter or cream, unfortunately that didn't last!).

What about checking in with your GP to see if you can be referred to someone?

3kids, sympathies - ds1 is 6.10 and incredibly fussy. He eats;

Cereals - cheerios, shreddies, rice krispies, with milk. Coco Pops cereal bars.

Bread/hot cross buns/toast - with marmite, lemon curd or cheese.

Chips, but no potatoes, occasionally crisps, but only if they are salt and vinegar.

Pasta and rice.

Vegetables - peas, baked beans

Fruit - grapes, and will drink fruit smoothies.

Drinks - fruit smoothies, water, milk, orange/apple/grape juice.

Meat - mince, if done with baked beans, not if done as bolognese. Fish fingers. Sausages at the local cafe, but otherwise not.

That is about it. He doesn't really eat sweets (although he does occasionally enjoy chocolate. I do not know what to do with him, but just try to keep things as balanced as possible so that he is as healthy as possible. He is as skinny as a rake, but very energetic, so I'm not too worried about him, but I do hope he will improve as time goes on.

my son also very skinny but he takes after his dad but still has loads of energy.
he would live on chocolate if i would let him!
he dosent eat any meat and occasionly will have fish wont eat eggs or drink milk but does have it on cereal (avoiding as much milk as is possible) i do give him a multi vitamin but is that enough? 10 yrs is a long time i would love for him to be able to eat the same as everyone else its such a bind to always have to do a separate dinner

hi 3 kids, I'm another one with a fussyeater, aged 4. He's just beginning to branch out with a mouthful of some new things (he's been this way sonce he was 18 months old).

iirc, cod and martianbishop have fussy eaters around the same age as your ds.

It's easier to post what they will eat rather than the ohter way round

My ds2 is 9 and is very fussy He eats cheese and tomato pizza. Plain spaghetti, rice, prawn crackers, yogurts, breadsticks, dry bun, crumpets. The common theme is bland. His answer is "it's not my fault if I have strange taste buds".

He too is skinny but sporty.

I do worry but then I remember how fussy I was. It wasn't until I was about 18 that I started trying new things.

tortoiseSHELL · 16/04/2008 09:41

saffy, I am sure that ds1 tastes things much more strongly than most others - he often complains that things 'smell bad' - like bananas or seemingly bland things. He basically eats things that don't taste of anything!
